Venom is rising quickly to become one of my favorite of Marvels offerings, and I hope Mike Costa, Mark Bagley, Scott Hanna, John Dell, and Dono Sanchez-Almara continue their fantastic work with this comic. Keep up the good work, guys. I highly recommend this series. Give it a read. Read Full Review
It seems there's a lot of potential in pitting Venom against Spider-Man's most iconic foes. While this issue doesn't do enough to flesh out that Venom/Kraven dynamic, it does further cement Kraven as a worthy and very dangerous foe to Eddie Brock. It's also a real treat to see Mark Bagley delivering some of his best work in years with this arc. Read Full Review
Those looking for an ultra-violent, anti-hero Venom experience will be disappointed. Instead, this lighter and less serious take on Eddie Brock's brand of justice is as enjoyable as it is stupid. We'll have to wait and see how much of it's charm relies on featuring Kraven and whether or not Venom can still entertain after the hunt is over. Read Full Review
To be honest I stayed with this series for two reasons following the Legacy "launch". 1. Great Bagley art - he is on fire drawing in the Spiderverse and I love it. 2. The series is crossing over with Amazing and then XMen right after and I follow both of those.
That said, the series has really won me over with the Kraven/Venom fight. There's nothing deep or ponderous here - but it's genuinely fun. I love the scene of Fisk's crony introducing Kraven to the city and Kraven's standing there in full lion garb - it's the sort of outlandish fun that makes me a comic fan.
Venom is awesome! This Kraven arc is really fun and has some really cool moments. The art has been so good with Bagley and this series just keeps getting better.
Kraven blasts Venom into an "If This Be My Destiny" homage, which is a super heavily-worn square on the spider-story bingo card. It's a safe, simple story that breaks little new ground but also commits few sins. The rough edges to the art and the script are not all that rough, and the pace is speedy in a good way. Points that could cause trouble in a slower story speed right past without doing any harm. It's not a story that's going to stick around in my memory, but it was a perfectly fun ride while I was reading it.
