Sep 10, 2024Venom #35 follows the aftermath of Carnages destruction of Meridius Garden and sets the stage for the upcoming Venom War event. One thing that was great to see was Eddie and his fellow Kings in Black gang up on Meridius. Even though it wasnt as satisfying as it could be, it was cathartic to see nonetheless. And of course Cafus art and Frank D'Armata's colors were good to see with Venom and Symbiotes in general. Read Full Review

Ewing has a way with words that even with the crazy ride it's clear who and what's happening even if you don't like the ride. Cafu is great as always.

The art is almost painfully beautiful. Each character and setting reflects such obvious thought and craftsmanship!
Al Ewing seems to recognize exactly what's been bugging me about this convoluted saga, so he spends this issue clarifying motives and goals. I appreciate him extracting Meridius from the story like a rotten tooth--and he does it with a cheeky continuity nod, of course.
What holds my rating shy of "great" territory is the corniness of the last-page introduction. Al Ewing is talented enough that I'll call such an obvious imitation of an extant character an "homage" rather than a "ripoff." Though it's fun (and, again, cheeky), it shifts the tone toward the ridiculous. Which could be good…or bad.

Good stuff. I don't really know how I feel about Venom War starting right after Blood Hunt, but I'm just hoping it's good. Venom's never been one of my favorite characters, but Ewing has continuously done a nice job. CAFU puts out some really nice art here as well, which he's no stranger to.
