Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten.

Parts of this arc just seem confusing to me. Like, why did Darkseid need to transport part of Argus to the jungle in order to start is “ Stargate”? I assumed they had the relics...
And what exactly do the relics do? Do they just grant access to Themyscra? And why is Darkseid trying to get there? Does he want to change them all into Amazon-Lizard-Gargoyle creatures for his army? Why doesn’t he just go back to Apokolips? Again, I feel like we just have a ton of unanswered questions just to get Darkseid in the story.

Basically, the story opens with Darkseid fighting Wonder Woman and him taunting her about how she can’t defeat him on her own and how she never could. Steve Trevor helps with the parademons and Fury’s while Jason helps out with Grail , but I keep coming back to this question: where is the league? This seems like an Omega Level event and still no League to help. Really? This happens AFTER metal and before No Justice Since Justice League Odyssey has Darkseid in it full grown. So they should be available AND with Jason coming out of the blue, why would the league not look into this?

We end with Grail opening the Stargate to Themyscra and walking through to change the Amazons into flying lizard-demon creatures but Diana can’t enter since she left. Thanks to a technicality, Grail can enter since she never set “foot” on Themyscra and left...

I wish I knew how important this story is and where it’s going. I feel like Darkseid, Grail, and Jason are only in it for flash, flare, and excitement. But it just sputters. When Darkseid is in a comic, I feel like it should be universal and Worldbreaking but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Here we are, 2018 and I stumbled upon tons of issues of this run for dirt cheap at a Dimple records of all places. I wanted to read this when it first came out but never ended up doing it so I'll review the issues I end up getting. Also, I wish Comicbook round up would correct the cover pictures for this series so people wouldn't mistake it for the modern Ms. Marvels. Some of the reviews are actually for the newer series, not this one.

Ms Marvel era Carol Danvers is definitely one of my favorite Marvel women...and not just for the incredible Frank Cho cover art. She is a likeable character that is always challenged greatly by what is put before her...even though she is very powerful. That is something that is lost in a lot of modern story telling. The actual issue art does not come close to the quality of Frank Cho's cover art but still gets the job done in my opinion.

The story is not the most thoughtful, but the brood and their "predator like" pursuer I actually enjoyed. Things escalate quickly. more

Great issue, great art and fantastic dramatic scenes. The fight scenes are awesome and this issue kicks up the stakes for this series 10 fold. Again, I love Rogue and Gambit's chemistry. What I am beginning to realize I love about the way this series is written is that the focus is on 2 characters...this give you so much more space to develop them and focus on telling a grand story rather than seeing just how many characters you can fit in one story. Can't wait for issue 3...this is officially added to my pull list. more

Just got the first issue and I totally enjoyed it. Artwork is great and the writer really captures the snarky chemistry we have grown to love between the two. The chemistry and banter probably is the greatest part of the story so far with a classic "man pursuing a woman" vibe to it. Definitely looking to see where it goes.

Fantastic artwork, great tactical action and some characters I could see myself really liking when I learn more about them. Most of all it is veeerry polished! Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

A interesting first issue overall, with a good balance of action and context. The story is not the most original as a LOT a movies and comics have treaded the ground of the retired assassin turned family woman/man whose past comes back to haunt her/him. Its connection to the events in Metal are literally non existing so it's a warning for those expecting it as shown on the cover. Honor's metahuman power is cool, but I doubt it can be sustainable in the long run and looks like an idea that is great in a production meeting, but not for an ongoing series on the long run. Luckily, her overall assassin's skills amd badassness more than compensate for the gimmicky power. I'm curious about what's next for the upcoming issues and this first one does a good job at keeping my interest high enough to care for now. more

This was more interesting than I had expected. I wasn't expecting her to have powers or ties to Talia al Ghul. Interested to see where this goes.

Pretty Good

Story is surprisingly really good, makes me want to continue reading the series. JRjr and the colorist needs to step up their game though, especially since this comic is an artist driven comic.

Really great issue.For one the writing reminds me a lot of Chuck Dixon's Robin,Nightwing and Detective comics runs,were the main character monologs,while fighting making the fight more engaging if you ask me.The characters seem pretty likeable.Honor seems like an interesting character and we learn a lot,about her,like how his powers work,how experienced she is in his old job.Just to name a few,although we don't know all the things,about her.His family seems to be a pretty good family.Romita's art except for one thing is really good.The book has some problems like the world building is a bit slow.And Romita isn't great at drawing faces he tries,but it's still not good,although to give him credit he does a great job drawing the bodies.Which makes him a better artist,than most current Marvel artists combined.Again great issue.And I am pretty interested of the upcoming issues. more

I decided to check this out at the recommendation of some comic reviewers I really like and let me tell you, both the description and the cover art do not do the comic justice. The story actually really hooked me and has me wishing this series was at least bi-montly. While the story is just getting started, it holds great promise and has so many set ups for completely heart breaking moments.

For those weary of this series due to SJW elements I say fear not! I found the main character to actually be extremely likable and mortal suffering broken ribs, cuts and bruses at the hands of larger foes. Her first fight she nearly blacks out due to her injuries. She is also a woman who holds nothing else above her family and being a mother, sort of a heartwarming story in that regard. She has an adorable son, pretty slick husband too.

Overall I'm really excited to see where the story goes and how the character fits into the DCU.

Loved the first issue and this really did not disappoint! Art work is great and the story is really compelling. Can't wait for wednessday to pick up the next issue. Can't rave about this enough in our current comic climate!

Having strayed away from comics since around Civil War I times, I came back recently to find the Marvel landscape unrecognizable and crammed with odd new characters piggy backing off the mantles of characters I loved instead of trying to create legacies of their own. While my adventure back into marvel comics was looking grim, I stumbled upon this and man was I pleased! A comic that wasn't like watching the news! Good old fashioned escapism at it's finest with surprisingly deep story telling. The focus of the fantastic four is still the strength found in family and friendship and the bond between these two (Ben and Johnny) is really growing. Can't wait to see where this goes! more

It's a well written story that sets up a potentially very fun series. While lacking in action, it does compensate with character development and makes the perfect launch pad for the upcoming events. The art is stunning though every pages and the colors are great. The nostalgia is strong with this one and Zdarksy knows it and uses it to its full potential. At this point, pretty much everyone hopes it ultimately turns into the full fledged return of the fantastic four, but for now, just Johnny and Ben seem like a nice team. It they can keep introducing cameos without them feeling forced and have a fast moving story, this might be a series to follow and add to you pull list for 2018. more

I loved this issue. I don't read much from Marvel these days as I find their books mostly unreadable, but seeing this (and hoping for an eventual FF return) prompted me to pick this up. I'm very happy that I did.
