America Chavez: Made in the USA #1 |
Apr 14, 2021 |
I’ve been a long time DC reader and finally decided to pick up a Marvel book for the first time. Without any advice or knowledge of what to pick I grabbed America Chavez because of the cover and boy was I surprised! THIS is how you do a #1! As someone who doesn’t know the universe at all beyond the movies it felt incredible to not only get to know the character, her origin and her current struggles, but it was fun to see other Marvel characters in action in a way that didn’t feel like I was confused! Now I’m actually fascinated to learn more about her team, The Young Avengers, and I might just pick up another Marvel title or two. Because of how INCREDIBLY this #1 was written in now excited to finish this series as well as explore more Marvel content! This is how you do it! Keep it friendly for new readers while keeping it interesting! |

Dark Nights: Death Metal: Death Metal Guidebook #1 |
Jan 6, 2021 |
The first story was genuinely necessary and I’m glad I got it because it filled in a few gaps I had for the story, but everything else felt unnecessary. The story with Wonder Woman and Ivy was cute, but again. Why? It doesn’t push the story further. It’s just filler content. All of this just like the Legends of the Dark Knights anthology issue is nothing but filler content. Is this what I’m spending my money on? I knew I should’ve just bought the main 1-7 issues and skipped these pointless one shots. My advice, you should too. |

Future State (2021): Wonder Woman #1 |
Jan 6, 2021 |
I was surprisingly disappointed with our introduction to Yara Flor. I had high hopes for her character and couldn’t wait for this issue, but something about it just didn’t sit right with me. Specifically at the end *SPOILERS MOVING FORWARD* when she steals and starts a fight as she’s trying to enter the underworld and gets excited about it? I know this is a new character, but she’s holding the title of Wonder Woman and I just couldn’t believe that moment. I can’t even see Cassie (Wonder Girl) doing something like that. Yara just seems childish and immature. It’s one thing to say in the comic that she’s flawed, but this seemed different to me. I’m going to pick up the second issue since that’s where this series ends, but man if it were an ongoing title I’d definitely stop here. |

Dark Nights: Death Metal: Robin King #1 |

Why is Riley Rossmo even a comic book artist anymore? I’m sorry, but his art style ruins everything I want to enjoy. It’s so distracting. But that’s not the sole purpose for my rating. This story was sloppy. At one point there was a flashback that I didn’t realize was happening. And then we’re back to present and again I didn’t realize it was happening until it was all over. The story shouldn’t make sense after. I should understand while reading it. It was also just not not enjoyable. I find this bombardment of Batman characters exhausting already. In all honesty I came into Death Metal thinking it was going to be about Perpetua after reading the Justice League run. Now I’m here and it barely even about her. This one shot just felt like another cheap ploy to sell books. |

Dark Nights: Death Metal: Legends of the Dark Knights #1 |
Jan 6, 2021 |
The ONLY reason I give this a 2 is because it has the debut/origin of Robin King. But man oh man was this the worst anthology I’ve ever read. A couple of the stories were literally two pages. Why? They served NO PURPOSE. This book was nothing but a waste of money and made me so mad I had to take a break from reading comics and switch to watching TV for a bit. The first story took up half the book. Literally went to the staples so that the other FOUR stories would all be condensed and rushed. Again. WHY?! I’ve never hated anything more than this. Save your money. Skip this book. |

Future State (2021): Swamp Thing #1 |
Apr 14, 2021 |
I have so much hate for this book. I love Swamp Thing and prior to this my only exposure to Ram V was his few books at the end of Justice League Dark which I only thought were “ok.” But man. This book was awful. I am definitely avoiding Ram V from now on. |
