Eda Thomas Bagwell Comic Reviews

While the writing from Kelly and Morris leaves a lot to be desired, the artwork from Pérez and Guru does a lot to carry here. Where the writing lost its heart, the artwork created excitement and makes the reader feel like they’re apart of the action. All things considered, I’m anxious to see where this is all going and I hope things make more sense down the line.Be sure to read more from me here as well as follow my socials!

The Rosenberg brothers weren’t on my radar prior, but after reading this, they certainly are now. They crafted something that’s exemplary of life and the human experience. In everything from the writing to the artwork, “If Destruction Be Our Lot” is a masterpiece. It’s arguably one of the best comics to come out this year and I’m undoubtedly having this be my pick of the week.

I already require the next issue of “If Destruction Be Our Lot” to be in my hands. This issue continues an already going trend of the Rosenberg brothers, MacDonald and Segala creating something truly once-in-a-lifetime. This series could really teach us a thing or two.

The Rosenberg brothers and crew continue to prove that “If Destruction Be Our Lot” is one of the best books of the year. While I’m left waiting for some answers, I can’t deny that everything overall is still holding strong. A definite must read!

Just when I thought this series couldn’t get any better, the Rosenberg brothers found a way to make it hit home. They’re continuing to craft a series that feels all too human, sometimes in our worst ways. Or maybe those are the ways we need to talk more about right now.

This was such an incredible way to start of the next volume of “If Destruction Be Our Lot”! In what continues to be a masterpiece of a run, the Rosenberg’s find yet another way to tell a story of life. Couple that with the top notch artwork and lettering and you have yourself something truly special.

While the panel work draws this back a bit, the writing and overall artwork from Panosian and Spalletta make this an absolutely spellbinding read! Always turning on it’s cruel heels, “Alice: Forever After #3” will leave you both speechless and with plenty of questions with future answers.

While not perfect, Sam Humphries’ “Cassie” is a funny and horrifying ride from start to finish. From the fantastic artwork and lettering to the dark humor and queerness, this book will be loved by anyone just wanting a fun read. Perhaps not a classic, but definitely worth more than a single read.

While the main plot takes a bit of a backseat, Palmiotti & Conner deliver a fun time with an interesting twist, coupled with fantastic artwork! This run overall is so far something special, and I very much look forward to the future!

From the first page to the last, this was a finale that really stuck the landing. Conner and Palmiotti crafted a story that’s hard to put down. Full of laughter, chaos, and crazy sci-fi, a good time will be had by all who pick up this run!

While it slightly stumbles, “The Dirt Beneath the Devil #1” is a pretty great start overall! Panosian and crew could truly have something great on their hands.

This, while lacking in terms of depth and room to breathe, was well worth the read. In the limited space they had, Bennett and her team created a fun and intense crossover with immense potential. With the other half coming next month from Erica Schultz, I’m anxious to see how I feel about this crossover in its entirety once all is said and done.

“Yumi: 00EX” feels like a Zillennial’s day out, if that day included chaotic spy antics with a dash of romance. Wagner gives the genre a rocket fueled injection full of amazing antics and cherry bomb romance. This with the combined efforts of Silva, Lennertz and Cvetkovic make for a truly amazing read.

While the pacing this time around might leave some wanting a bit more, Wagner’s storytelling is more than enough to keep readers engaged. That, coupled with the amazing art and design team at his back, makes “Yumi: 00EX #2” a truly good issue in its own right.

While Wagner’s writing isn’t perfect here, he continues to tell a story full of energy and intriguing characters. While the whole team shows effort, that book is carried by the fantastic visuals of Silva and Lennertz. While the first issue was a strong start, I’m a bit afraid of how things will end.

Kyle Higgins delivers a terrific start to what’s sure to be a wild ride. While one doesn’t normally think of these two worlds coming together, he makes it seem like they always were. Whether you’re a fan of the Joes or of Lara, you won’t walk away from this disappointed. As a massive “Tomb Raider” fan, I sure didn’t and look forward to what’s coming!

If you enjoyed the first issue, I see no reason as to why you won’t enjoy this one! While the illustrations bring it down just a bit, that doesn’t detract from the story being told. Kyle Higgins keeps things exciting while the characters stay true to who they are. For any fan of “G.I. Joe” and “Tomb Raider”, you won’t regret picking this up.

While not perfect throughout, “Marvel Tokon: First Strike” remains a truly great one-shot thanks to the collaborative effort between all involved! If you’re at all interested in the game, I highly recommend purchasing this book to learn more about the new universe. I personally had a fantastic time reading this and I think you will as well!

Between the artwork of Rossi Gifford being a standout and the writing from both Kieron Gillen and Ryan North being horrifically stellar, “Super Creepshow” is sure to deliver the frights and screams to any and all who add it to their collection!

Overall, Amy Chase’s “Fixation #1” is solid and sticks the initial landing while leaving room for more. While the art admittedly holds it back a tiny bit for me, it’s something I was still able to easily sink my teeth into as a slasher fiend. While not perfect, I’m still very interested to see where this goes!

While I didn’t think it possible, “Fixation #2” amplifies in every way, perfectly delivering on the promises of its predecessor. Every twist and turn feels perfectly planned and intentional while emotionally devastating. Amy Chase has created a truly remarkable horror tale.

From start to finish, Williams crafted a genuinely great start to a so far light-hearted horror ride! A true page turner that’s sure to please anyone missing the era of “E.T.” to “Iron Giant.” The writing is coupled only by the great art and colors from Vendrell and Sastre!

From the intense writing to the fantastic artwork, everything about “Hidden Springs” is amazing! In a story about monsters, Williams managed to capture the human experience. I can’t recommend this series enough, especially if you’re looking for something new and different.

While this opening issue left me with questions I fear won’t be fully answered in such a short series, I overall loved it! Through a mix of the writing and artwork, the main character is easy to relate to and the scares are aplenty. The quadruple threat is crafting something deep and dreadful within these pages and I’m hooked enough to see more!

It should come as a surprise to no one that Kirkman and crew killed it here, as they always do. If you love the Spider-Man or the “Invincible” series on Amazon, this is a must read!

The more I read from this event, the more I realize exactly what I’ve been missing. Ewing does a fantastic job of not just balancing all of these characters, but making the story feel grand, exciting and intense. As this continues on, I’m excited to see where the world of Marvel ends up after this.

“Queen in Black: Defenders of Light & Dark #5” is yet another great entry in this overall fantastic event devised by Al Ewing. He and Tom Waltz refuse to let up off the gas as they take readers on a journey. With fantastic art and lettering to boot, won’t regret adding this to your haul.

This new run on Sabrina is off to a strong start thanks to Bechko and her crew. Full of spellbinding writing and enchanting artwork, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1” is something every fan will love! After this issue, I’m excited to see what else is cooking in the cauldron.

Whether you’re a fan of Chuck Brown or just love the titular heroines, this is a prime example of how single-issue crossovers should be done. Let alone crossovers between these two. After having put it down, I already want to give it another read. Brown and crew really worked together and made this a fun experience, albeit a short one that could’ve just as easily made for a fantastic series.

In just three short stories, this team manages to perfectly capture the magic of “A Christmas Carol” in their own horrifying way. Each of these stories is so good in its own way that I’d love to receive spin-offs. Tackling a project like this isn’t easy yet this team made it look so.

I truly don’t know how else to describe “Prima Apparata” so far other than uniquely perfect. Creators this year are continuing to bring new and different ideas to various mediums and Dufault is no different. If you’re in need a female-centric sci-fi tale that feels like a breath of fresh air, let “Prima Apparata” be that. You won’t walk away disappointed.

Olivia Dufault and the team have truly made reading this feel like witnessing the world’s most beautiful ballet. The way the story, art, colors, and letters all play and dance together is a true wonder. “Prima Apparata#2” is something you truly need to read for yourself.

The writing is absolutely alluring with a staunch, powerful message and artwork that backs it up near perfectly. Any “Vampirella” fan will want to sink their teeth in!

From Priest’s fantastic, important messaging and story to the gorgeous artwork of Ergün Gündüz, this is a stellar book from start to finish! It’s most certainly one that I can see myself re-reading multiple times over without hesitation.

“Creepshow #1” showcases Boss and De Felici at their absolute best. Whenever these two are allowed to give it their all, they make sure to go above that. Both stories deliver the thrills and chills in a short amount of time, helped all the more by the horrifyingly great artwork and lettering. Bravo to all involved in the making of this issue!

”Creepshow” strikes hard once again in this new second issue. Both stories have deep meaning and relate heavy to things going on right now, so I highly recommend giving this a read. The creeps are creeping in a very showy way.

Shawn: This was exactly what I needed from a the second issue of “Mimi Green”. This team is crafting a really complex and interesting story that feels both reflective and a call to action over the way we see ourselves, while also being a horror story. “Did You Hear About Mimi Green #2” was an absolute thrill ride and cerebral story. I can’t wait for issue #3.

The whole team truly came together to create something wonderful and impactful. This isn’t just a horror story, but a story about overcoming yourself, personal growth and acceptance. The art, writing and lettering all work beautifully together, hand-in-hand, in a way that’s hard to come by.

I can’t imagine this having been an easy feat for David Avallone to take on as sole writer, but he did an absolutely stellar job! Paired with this insane team of artists and Omi Remalante Jr., they created something that was truly special from start to finish. Whether you enjoy none or all of these characters, I can’t recommend this book enough. If you get the chance to read it, do.

“Hammer Head #1” is a near-perfect first outing from Brisson as he creates a horrifying tale wrapped around an intense, uncomfortable, and necessary message. With a fantastic team behind him, this is a horror run you’ll want to pay attention to. I know I will be.

Yancy: Obviously, there’s a lot more to be revealed in this story. But so far Sai’s story is one of filled with wonders, intrigue and a fun mystery. This is an incredible collaboration by some of the most talented creators in comic books. Marvel is setting a new standard for teamwork in storytelling with Peach Momoko at the forefront of this project.

What can I say that I didn’t say already? The energy, the pacing, the artwork… everything is top notch. Peach Momoko and crew proved that they came to take the Marvel multiverse by force and that they refuse to be topped. This run is a comic lover’s dream and if you aren’t reading, you need to be.

While the final pages may prove to be a bit divisive amongst fans, the team stuck the landing overall. With as hard a project as this run, Peach Momoko and crew kept things tied tight with an overall great story and utterly fantastic artwork. All involved in this genre-defining project should pat themselves on the back and stand proud of the perfection they created. “Sai: Dimensional Rivals” is an absolute masterclass from start to finish, and I’ll absolutely be buying the trade paperback when it releases.

This inaugural issue from writer Delilah S. Dawson is an absolute standout that I can’t wait to read more of. From the dark themes to the excellent character writing and artwork, “Sleepy Hollow: The Witches of the Western Wood” is series you need to have on your radar!

Dawson continues to lead a spellbinding team for this magical run! Everything from the writing to the art will keep you in a trance. If you’re looking for a great horror read, this is certainly up there!

As the penultimate issue, “Sleepy Hollow: Witches of the Western Wood #4” continues an absolutely incredible streak. Dawson takes readers into a true mind of madness and doesn’t let up on the gas. If you want an utterly fantastic “Sleepy Hollow” story, this is it.

Delilah S. Dawson and crew should be proud of how fantastic this series is. From the first issue to the last, this run is a work of pure perfection. If you weren’t interested in the legend of Sleepy Hollow before, this will be the story to get you there.

From the writing of Hannah Rose May to the artwork of Miriana Puglia and Dearbhla Kelly, this is easily a piece that any horror fan will gain a smile from! Absolutely stellar from start to finish and I can’t wait for more.

If I didn’t say it before, I’ll say it now, “Smile: For The Camera” more than proves that Hannah Rose May needs to be considered as one of the greats in horror comics. Issue #2 keeps up the energy left from the start and doesn’t hold back. She’s taking chances, and the art & colors of Puglia and Kelly follow through. This run so far is an absolute must read for any horror enthusiast.

While things might feel a bit too fast paced for some, Hannah Rose May crafted yet another stellar entry to her “Smile” series. Tension and horror ran high, with stellar art and color work to boot! The creative team continues to prove they’re here to stay and that Rose May is an absolute icon on the rise. With only a few issues left, I’m more than excited to see where things go from here!

What started as I run I went into blind has become one of my favorites out right now. Hannah Rose May continues to prove herself, leveling up and showing just how masterful of a horror writer she is. Her and her partners-in-crime prove that you can take a simple concept and expand it in such an amazing way to make it your own. If you aren’t reading “Smile: For The Camera”, you need to be.

From the first page of issue #1 to the final page of issue #5, “Smile: For The Camera” is a horror story for the ages. What Rose May, Puglia and Kelly crafted throughout is simply astonishing and something I’ll never cease to recommend. Brilliance in motion is all I can say and I’m beyond sad that it’s ending. I can’t wait to read more from Hannah Rose May and am super excited to see whatever she has cooking next!

From the Boss levels of writing to the art that echoes one of the comic book greats, this is a run that’s more than worth a look at for any horror fiend. That goes double for anyone who’s a monster for the Universal Monsters.

Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds have come together to create an absolute masterclass in how to do horror. Boss created a beast, perfectly adapting a gothic classic for modern audiences. If you aren’t yet reading this, you need to be!

If you love Red Sonja, then I see no reason as to why you won’t love this! Rory McConville and crew are doing an utterly fantastic job at bringing this world to life in a new and exciting way. Full of suspense, humor, violence and fantastic artwork, “Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword” will keep you coming back for more.

Between his ability to expertly balance drama and comedy as well as his skills in character development, it’s easy to fall in love with McConville’s “Red Sonja.” Adeptly matched by Neto and De Bonis, this is the best the character’s been in awhile.

This midway point was exactly what this run needed. I don’t know how they’re doing it, but McConville and his crew keep making this story better and more exciting with each issue. “She-Devil With a Sword” is a true masterclass in fantasy writing, and I can’t get enough.

What McConville delivers here is a fantastic start to a brand new arc. While the action is there, it takes a bit of a backseat to develop this new piece. Doing this while delivering on some thrills and chills makes for the start of something truly amazing.

“Jeff the Land Shark: Superstar #1” is a super fun, chaotic, Saturday morning cartoon ride! Kelly Thompson is off to a strong start here and I’m absolutely loving the ride already. It feels like I’m seeing some of the exact stuff of what goes on in my head and it’s a wonder to behold.

If you’re a fan of Jeff the Land Shark, this is an absolute must read. Thompson and crew continue to keep things fresh and exciting, ramping up the chaotic energy from the previous issue. If they can keep this up, I fear we may have one of Marvel’s best lighthearted reads on our hands.

Thompson’s work on “Jeff the Land Shark: Superstar” continues to be a true standout. She and her team manage to continue keeping things fresh and lively while delivering heavily on the laughs and joy. I truly believe it would be hard for even the harshest cynic to hate this book and I openly challenge anyone to try.

From Bunn’s no-holds-barred writing to the bone-chilling artistry of Aneke and Patricia Martin, “Ripcord” is something you need to keep on your radar. This, for sure, is something I’ll be adding to my pull list, guaranteed.

Bunn, Aneke, and Martín continue to prove that they’re a force to be reckoned with. From the insane artwork to the deep storytelling, “Ripcord” continues to say that it deserves to exist and will do whatever it takes to get the recognition it deserves. This should be an immediate add to your pull list if it isn’t already.

Despite leaving things with several open-ended questions, “Ripcord” was able to mostly stick the landing. Cullen Bunn truly gave this his all while Aneke, Samaniego, and AndWorld Designed rocked it everywhere else. “Ripcord” is a rip-roaring great time from start to finish.

Mark Millar delivers once again in this interstellar sci-fi outing any fan of the genre will love! Whether you’ve been following the Millarverse or not, this is one that any reader can easily get sucked into. Helped by the exceptional work of Corrado and Nisa Mastantuono, “Star-Crossed” is on its way to being one of the great modern sci-fi romps.

“Star-Crossed” continues to be a fantastic new addition to the Millarworld universe. This run is continuing to expand it in phenomenal ways that will make any fan feel like they’re in a star-crossed love. If you haven’t thought about picking this up, I highly entice you to do so.

Being at the midway point of the mini-series, this issue was an excellent turning point. Millar and Corrado are both at the top of their game and each issue is better than the last. You can go in never knowing what to expect next and have the ride of your life in this tight, gripping story.

Anta and Irizarri crafted a truly strong start to a modern monster tale. From using real-world influence comes a product of the times that can only be delivered truthfully by those who know the struggle. “The Beast of Borikén #1” is one you need to add to your collection.

Julio Anta’s “Beast of Boriken” just keeps getting better issue after issue. The tension is properly palpable, with the illustrations and colors further boosting the intensity. If you aren’t reading this, do yourself a favor and start!

Ashley Allen seriously worked wonders on this issue. In just twenty-five pages in this universe, she crafted a part of it that I want so much more of. I’m not ready to let go of these versions of these characters so soon, and I both love and hate that Allen and her team created a corner that’s this perfect.

Wong and their crew breathed fire into Marvel’s Mangaverse with “Ghostlocke #1”. While not being as emotionally heavy as last week’s “Arcane Avengers”, this manages to be dark, fun, and a breath of horrifying fresh air. With each issue being amazing in its own way, “Ghostlocke #1” stands out with a roaring engine and vengeance in its heart.

Cody Ziglar and his crew absolutely brought this home and made it a five-star meal. If you weren’t a fan of Riri before, then allow Ziglar to change your mind. This was a truly insane and intense ride from start to finish and the perfect lead into next weeks issue!

Marvel’s Mangaverse is back with a fierce vengeance all thanks to this insanely stellar team! Joe and Jack bring a strong level of excitement and newness while Ruiz, Noiry and Maher bring visual flare that stuns to the core. I’m now beyond excited to see what writer Cody Ziglar brings us next week in “Marvel Mangaverse: Iron Knight #1”! In the meantime, “Web of Blood #1” releases officially on September 3rd!

All in all, the Mangaverse anniversary event was spectacular. Joe and Jack Kelly both started and ended this event on insanely high notes that I fear will be tough to top. All the while, Ruiz, Noiry, and Maher consistently delivered across the board. This team brought life to something dead, and they should be proud.

Seeley, O’Nan, Armitano and Stevens all worked together to create a beautiful and horrifying take on a Hamlet-like story that would surely make Shakespeare himself proud. If you love tense tales of revenge, murder, devious beings and a dash of teen-angst, this is the run for you!

So far, this whole team can do no wrong. From Seeley & O’Nan’s intense story evoking the likes of “Hamlet” or “Death Note” to the insane artwork, “Pretty Hate Machine” is a whole different beast. This is a beast clawing its way from the pits of Hell itself, demanding to be read, and it should be.

The entire team are putting their all into this series and it shows. It continues to show its teeth while making readers guess with bated breath. If there’s one thing you can expect from this series, it’s that it’ll deliver.

If this first issue is an indicator of things to come, then you can rest assured “Sicko” will knock your socks off! This first issue is an absolutely incredible promise with fantastic character work and design. If this isn’t already on your radar, it should be.

While going to places I didn’t expect, Tini Howard manages to deliver at almost the same level as the first issue. “Sicko” continues to be unlike anything else I’ve ever read and the twists introduced here make it all the more interesting. I’m beyond ecstatic to see where this all leads in coming issues!

I don’t know how she did it, but Howard managed to solidify this as my favorite run of the year with this issue. The revelations and twists made here were simply jaw-dropping and won’t leave any reader disappointed! I seriously can’t wait for the next issue and need it as soon as possible!

From beginning to end, this was a read that was tough to put down. Priest shows just how he’s an expert at the craft and what magic can be created by trusting your artist. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a reader just wondering where to start, this book is perfection personified. An absolute bona fide standout in Priest’s illustrious career.

From the tenseness, horror, and relatability of writing to the matching tenacity of the artwork, Priest led and created yet another highly exceptional installment of “Vampirella”. One will laugh as much as they feel fear and will want to keep coming back for another bite.

Priest and company continue to prove how and why they’re here to stay. With each passing issue, I become more and more sucked in, feeling as if I’m a part of the action. The art breathes life into something already wonderful due to Priest’s once-in-a-lifetime gift. I need more, pronto.

From the intense writing to the insane art work, “Vampirella #4” is a tour de force in the strongest sense of the word. Priest and crew are creating something truly memorable and iconic for Vampi and her world.

With every issue, this current volume keeps getting better and better. Priest manages to capture relatability with the mixture of symbolism in the perfect way. All the while, Goetten and Caputo ooze beauty onto each page, altogether creating a thriving and breathing world. This volume of “Vampirella” continues to be one for the history books.

Priest and his crew truly have yet to miss. While it’s definitely a close call, this may just be my favorite issue from the last two volumes. Between the deep yet relatable themes and fantastic artwork, Vampirella is on one of her best runs yet. If you’re not reading, you’re missing out big time.

Priest continues to push the boundaries as he goes deeper with his storytelling. He forces us to ask some tough questions not just of the characters, but of ourselves. Couple the deep themes he’s telling with “Vampirella” with the transcending artwork, and you have yourself a masterpiece in the making.

Erica Schultz and crew actively created a jaw-dropping work of a Summer special. From the near-perfect artwork to the gut-wrenching story, I can’t recommend this issue enough! This is the perfect taste before we get into Schultz’s “Vampirella x WitchBlade” later this year!

De Felici does nothing but work wonders in this introductory issue. So far, this is like nothing I’ve ever read before, and it got me hook, line and sinker.

De Felici is truly a wonder maker. From his writing to his artwork, he excels on both fronts, something that isn’t easy to do. I’m super excited to see where things go from here!

Every issue continues to build off the previous in ways that I can’t expect. It seems like every time I have a question, De Felici goes, “I’ll answer it, but I’ll do it in style,” and that he does. “Red Roots” continues to be a story and world that you won’t regret getting wrapped up in.

Everything about this issue is fantastic. Both the writing and the artwork continue to be some of the best out there right now, while the lettering from Rus Wooten is excellent. While I’m beyond excited to see where this goes, I know I’ll be sad to see it end.

Shawn: Red Roots continues to be one of the best series premiering this year. Lorenz De Felici captures your heart and your mind with Red Roots #5. The issue both heart-wrenching and terrifying.

I don’t think I can really praise this run enough. It’s so far remained consistently stellar and this installment doesn’t disappoint. I can easily say that you can read all three of these first issues and not at all feel like you’re missing a beat. The creative team is putting in the work and it shows!

“Alias: Red Band” from Sam Humphries was more than worth the years of waiting. This new story for Jess perfectly captures what makes her feel so enigmatic and engaging to read. Coupled with some truly amazing art, this entire run is perfect from start to finish. Your jaw will be on the floor as the team delivered truly stunning work.

Overall, G. Willow Wilson’s “Black Cat #14” is arguably the most fun book in the “Queen in Black” event so far. Given what happens, I’m very anxious to see where this leads not just for Felicia, but for the event as a whole! The team truly worked their butts off to make this issue as spectacular as it is and they pulled it off in supreme style.

From the slasher influence to the properly grungy art style, everything about “Chrome” is an absolute masterclass of both the genre and the property. I can’t recommend this enough and intend to have everyone I know read it.

Stejpan Šejić’s new entry into “Death Vigil” is undoubtedly a risky one, but it more than paid off. In a great gateway into the series, Šejić managed to reintroduce these great characters to readers new and old in an utterly fantastic and fun first issue. If you see this on the shelves of your LCS, definitely pick it up if you feel it’s right for you!

This second issue of the new “Death Vigil” run is an utterly fantastic follow up. This is without a doubt becoming some of the best stuff I’ve read all year. Stjepan Šejić is absolutely rocking the house in ways I’ve never seen before and I can’t wait to get more!

Stjepan Šejić is on a serious roll with “Death Vigil”. Šejić is creating a story full of not just death, but life and its complications. I really can’t wait for the next issue!

While expansions can be tricky, Brombal and team go above and beyond in nailing it. Gripping you tight and pulling you into the tension, this is an incredible slow burn with art & colors to match. For longtime fans of the SIKTC series, this is more than worth the read. A surely amazing ride lies ahead.

Aditya Bidikar and his art team continue to astound and amaze. So far, “In Your Skin” is something that feels truly timeless, especially in this modern age of fandom and social media. Bidikar continues daring to ask the questions everyone else is afraid to, and I love this all the more for it. I feel as if it’s safe to say we have a modern horror classic on our hands, and you should be reading.

Issue after issue, Bidikar continues to prove he’s a master of horror, whether he realizes it or not. Paired with the expertly nauseating work of Pal and Segala, “In Your Skin” is continuing to be one of the best of this generation.

Where can I even begin here? Everyone worked their magic and put their hearts and souls onto these pages. This is, without a doubt, one of the best comics I’ve read all year. I laughed, cried and felt represented in a way I never have before. Representation like this is what we need right now and I’m ecstatic for the ride ahead.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I’m loving this run. It teaches our history while simultaneously adding so much more depth to these characters. The more I read, the more I’m anxious to see where this all leads. I’m consistently left on the edge of my seat, crying as it’s so easily to relate to what these characters are experiencing and going through. If you aren’t picking this up or adding it to your pull-list, I promise you won’t regret it if you do.

From the deep messages and fantastic storytelling to the excellent and varied art & colors, “Justice League Dream Girls” continues to astound! Maines and Axelrod continue to prove they put their souls into their writing while Wilson more than delivers on a fantastic Harlivy side story. This is a fantastic series that you won’t want to miss!

If “Midnight Fantastic Four” is anything to go by, this new universe is off to a truly great start. If you’re not already one, Percy will make a Fantastic Four fan out of you yet. The thrills and chills are building, so here’s to hoping the payoff will be fantastic.

If you were at all hesitant to pick this up, do yourself a favor and just do it. Kenny Porter feels at the top of his game with this, and trusting in Tyrell Cannon completely was a very smart decision. If I could read this for the first time again, I absolutely would!

I don’t know how they’re doing it, but “Operation: Iron Coffin” is one of the best out this year. Kenny Porter manages to create a version of Dracula that feels relatable yet horrifying. His writing coupled with Cannon’s fantastic artwork create a truly amazing reading experience.

“Operation: Iron Coffin” is an absolute tour de force from start to finish. If you ever feel down about yourself, read this to remind yourself you’re so much more. If someone or something like Dracula can redeem himself, then so can we.

I’m so stoked that this has more issues ahead, as this opener was a true all-timer. Rios managed to capture humor, drama and magical time shenanigans in a bottle and make it work. If you’re a fan of either character, this is an absolute must read!

Avallone truly shines in leading “Red Sonja Noir”, proving that he’s more than deserving of a Red Sonja on-going. In one issue, he perfectly captured the noir vibes while nailing all layers of the character and her world. Rounding this issue out are the jaw-dropping art and colors from Enn and Augusto. If you need something refreshing for your pull list, then consider this the mint it needs.

Miner’s “Satanic Panic” is an astounding commentary on racism and homophobia and how it impacts everybody, especially those the issues effect. As a pansexual trans woman that plays TTRPGs herself, this is already a series that I feel deeply connected to and impacted by. Altogether, the team is creating horrifying magic and I need more immediately.

From the message being told to the almost painting-like artwork, everything about SIKTC #47 is an absolute masterpiece. This deep into the franchise, Tynion and crew continue to prove that true artistry never runs out of gas and that it can always dig deeper. This series continues to be an absolute triumph!

In everything from the message to the tone and the artwork, “Sonja Reborn #6” is an utterly stellar read from start to finish! Priest is arguably at his best here, and the art more than lives up to the writing. I, for one, can’t wait to see what more is being cooked up for the character come May 2026!

Everyone clearly brought their A-game here and closed this run out on the perfect finale. While I'm sad to see it go, I absolutely can't wait to see where the Riders go from here.

The latest issue of “The Eye Collector” from Jonathan Ball and G.M.B. Chomichuk most certainly won’t be for everybody, but for me, it’s a tour e force. From the sparse writing with intense meaning to the horrifying artwork, “The Eye Collector” is something that could only come from the minds of great madmen.

“The Eye Collector” just keeps getting better and better with every issue. However, it’s here that Ball and Chomichuk really make the series come alive. If Coppelius enters my nightmares, I put full blame on his creators for doing such a wonderful job!

Once again, the entire team knocked it out of the park on “The Eye Collector”. The collector demands more eyes, and you should oblige. This is truly some of the best stuff coming out of the horror space right now, and Ball and Chomichuk should be proud of what they’ve concocted.

Ball, Chomichuk and Radchenka have yet to miss on “The Eye Collector”. Each page delivers on the thrills and chills while making you question everything. If you want guaranteed nightmares, read this!

The things that Haun and his team are doing are truly electric and terrifying. “Dooney Hollow” is for those that love slow burn horror with plenty of mystery and fall vibes. If you want that, then you need to pick this up!

While I didn’t think it would be possible, “The Folk of Dooney Hollow #2” was an improvement over the first issue in almost every way. Not only has Haun crafted a spectacular horror story, but it’s one made with love, meaning and depth. He and his crew are creating something that feels truly memorable.

“Three Worlds/Three Moons: Arrival” is an absolute must read for any sci-fi fan looking for a taste of something unique and magical. Writers Hickman and Spencer are at the top of their game while the art team fails to be outclassed. This is absolutely something else and I’m so excited to continue delving deep into this universe!

Everything about “Three Worlds/Three Moons: Shift” is truly astounding and perfect. Story-wise, Hickman is on his A-game, while del Mundo and D’Alfonso delivered art that inspires. This is what true mastery looks like.

Gilly’s “Sacred Artifacts” remains a perfect gateway for newcomers while being a fantastic read for longtime fans! I can’t recommend this series enough.

Gilly, Di Caprio, and Angiolini all come together to create one of Lara’s best adventures to date! Any fan not reading “Sacred Artifacts” is missing out on a truly exciting time.

As sad as I am to see this series go, I’m beyond ecstatic that I got to experience it as it happened. From the first issue to the last, Gilly and crew take readers on a wild ride, not allowing us to let go. The writing, art and colors worked together to create something truly electric and worth remembering. I’d even go so far as to say that Gilly, Di Caprio and Angiolini cemented themselves in Tomb Raider’s legacy.

From the masterclass writing that Sniegoski delivers to the horrifyingly great art and coloring of Menna and Augusto, this is a run everyone needs to keep an eye on! I couldn’t put this down and I don’t think you will either.

If you love horrifying violence partnered with top notch writing and a deep message, Sniegoski’s “Vampirella: Armageddon” is for you. Impactful, heavy, tense and slightly sadistic. You’ll be yearning for more before you even finish.

When the writer, artist and colorist all come together to create a triple threat, you know you have something amazing on your hands. From the humor-laced intensity in Sniegoski’s writing to the gothic realism of Menna & Augusto, “Vampirella: Armageddon #11” is a must add to your collection this week! With next month set for the finale, now’s as good a time as any to get caught up!

Alas, this fantastic run of Sniegoski’s has come to an exceptional conclusion. He, along with Menna and Augusto, captured lightning in several bottles. Every issue felt kinetic and engaging with great depth to its story, characters and artwork. This run was simply fantastic and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
