If “Midnight Fantastic Four” is anything to go by, this new universe is off to a truly great start. If you’re not already one, Percy will make a Fantastic Four fan out of you yet. The thrills and chills are building, so here’s to hoping the payoff will be fantastic. Read Full Review

Horror was never that far fromFantastic Fourr’s basic DNA. They concept of a scientist in a metal mask. Who's also an expert in the dark arts of magic was a essential villain. As was an alien entity that could consume the life force off of an entire planet. The horror was always there. It was just never focused on exclusively. Kirby I had too much story to tell. It's interesting to see the darker aspects of it focused on more exclusively. It could really turn into something remarkable. Read Full Review

There are a lot of questions here, and I’m perfectly okay with not having the answers yet. Midnight Fantastic Four has created a genuinely intriguing mystery while giving us a darker, more unsettling version of Marvel’s First Family. Read Full Review

    Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez

Midnight Fantastic Four #1 is the strongest of the three Midnight launches by far. Benjamin Percy’s reimagining of the Fantastic Four’s origin mixes sci-fi, Lovecraftian gore, and creepy dread. Plus, Kev Walker’s art style is a spot-on match for the material. Only a few minor gaps hold this issue back from a perfect score. Read Full Review

    Comic Watch - Theron Couch

Midnight Fantastic Four #1 offers a great deal of potential. If the art is any indication, there might be Lovecraftian elements at work. Percy’s story is on a slow but very steady burn, and Reed is compelling from the outset. Unfortunately the issue comes up very short when where the art is concerned. Walker’s work, at least in this first issue, doesn’t quite fit the mood of Percy’s story. That said, horror fans should definitely give Midnight Fantastic Four #1 a look. Read Full Review

Compared to Midnight Spider-Man's masterful handling of Peter Parker and his supporting cast, Midnight Fantastic Four can't compare in the characterization department. And plot-wise, the first issue settles for teeing up the same sort of origin story we've seen many times, just with more cosmic horror in the recipe. For now, this series feels like the one with the most untapped potential. Read Full Review

Kev Walker's art is perfect for this book. Very promising start, my biggest hope is that they go all the way with the cosmic horror.

    Plot
Reed Richards is a brilliant, prominent scientist conducting research at the New York Institute of Technology, but his reckless, negligent actions lead to his dismissal and the confiscation of his work; matters take a dark turn when he breaks in one night alongside his star student and assistant, Victor Von Doom.

Reed activates an experiment—a portal to the mysterious Negative Zone—without realizing Victor is nearby, resulting in Victor’s skin being virtually charred; this tragedy lands Reed in prison. While incarcerated, he is visited by billionaire Sue Storm, whose rocket company, Storm Systems, has been plagued by a string of rocket explosions; she secures Reed's release without charges and hires him.

A solid and intriguing intro to a thriller story that takes some bold swings. Practically from page 1 you are shown that this is not a twist on a traditional F4 story, its another story entirely for these characters. I won't give anything away, but this portrait of Reed is one that feels both familiar but also harrowing. Theres some fun blending of science and philosophy.

The art is fantatsic(heh). Im a fan of Kev Walker and have bee for a while, think he's underrated. Hes not the mother detailed, the most grandiose, the most beautiful but what he is is wildly consistent and has an ability to instantly transport you into the worlds that he renders. He knows where to place the camera; where to insert more details, where to exaggera more

    - Easy read
    - Medium horror
    - Innovative
    - Good art

To be honest there is not a lot and a lot at the same time. This series is off to a great start, nothing crazy... yet

    Astonishingly Awful

After reading the horrible Midnight Spider-Man, Midnight Fantastic Four was a sight for sore eyes. I remember seeing Kev Walker’s art before and not liking it very much, but I really love what he’s doing on this book. His figures can look stiff sometimes, but he’s making up for it with great, precise inks, lively facial expressions, atmospheric settings and some truly terrifying horror visuals. I also like the redesign of Reed. Both his look and the way he is introduced in the story make him an immediately likable character.
On the downside, there could have been more story. All we’re getting is pretty much the introduction of the main characters and a tease of what’s to come.

All in all, Midnight Fantastic Four is a positive more

What a great start. I’m not the biggest Percy fan, but this has a lot of potential. Even though the Spider-man and X-men ones haven’t quite convinced me, Midnight F4 sold me on this initiative.

What a nothing issue. After loving the other two Midnight launches this was a massive disappointment. The other two issues took me some time to read and gave me plenty to chew on. After breezing through this issue it felt like nothing had happened. The end has me a little intrigued but this won't be getting too many more issues to reel me in.
