Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: III #1

May 9, 2019

It's always great to see the TMNT interact with the Dark Knight given how alike they are. That is always how the Turtles work best; they make up four facets of one person, and each goes into Batman equally. Tynion and Williams are an amazing team and they are aiming at going out on top. They've brought out the best in both properties because they acknowledge the source material in equal parts. I look forward to get answers next week and find out what exactly is going on.

Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: III #2

The nostalgia scored awesome points. Eastman's art inserted into William's panels is the best way to convey the distinction between worlds. While I have misgivings about how Batman is handled, I'm trying to stay positive and look forward to seeing this story in its entirety.

Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: II #4

There is little I can say that is bad about the writing and artwork, but the plothole and ending giveaway are instant points taken off. Overall Im really enjoying this series and cant wait to see the resolution to this story and what Donatello will do and how in control he can keep himself while on Venom.

Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: III #4

Aug 13, 2019

It's the issue that faithful readers have been waiting for. The writing flows, the colored inkwashes of Freddie Williams II catch the viewer's eye, and all character get their spotlight. "Crisis in a Half-Shell" began very confusing but still engaging. It's now becoming a clear plot that I can't wait to see through to the end. See you guys next month! Booyakashaa!!!

Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: II #5

Mar 26, 2018

The character interactions and development bring a smile to my face. Batman and TMNT work extremely well together and I sincerely hope that after this series there will be another chapter in this inter-dimensional crossover. While dialogue problems and pacing exist, this books art team hold the readers interest by drawing on what makes both Batman and TMNT the legends they are. Looking forward to the conclusion to this epic event.

No mutant fly will stop me from giving this a solid 5 out of 5. Excellent writing, characterization, and retained underlying main plot involving the Turtle who has a way with machines. Excellent work to all involved. TURTLE POWER!

Batman and the Signal #1

Jan 6, 2018

Its not bad, but not perfect either. At best were either going to see the foundation of a soon-to-be sellout hero, or a flash in the pan. That depends on the quality of the writing.

Batman and the Signal #2

Duke evolving as a vigilante separate from Batman this soon is indeed something different, and having former Robins as his backup make for a really good team. So far so good, but again the art could be better. Nuff said.

Batman and the Signal #3

Apr 30, 2018

While Duke Thomas has a potentially great run ahead of him as The Signal, I just feel the art failed him in this series. While it did give him a good start to a semi-solo career his own corner of town, his own secret facility, decent support base, and an archenemy the final arc seemed a little anticlimactic in some points.

The artwork is solid and the story draws you in. Again, the new suit is a hard sell for me, personally. Besides that, a great start to the next chapter in Catwomans life.

And her leaving Bruce at the altar is there through minor visual reminders like the ring she refuses to part with, yet isn't the focus. Reviewer or not, I'm still going to buy the book for the good points that I've already outlined and I highly recommend it.

Catwoman (2018) #3

The opening fight scene, the origin of Raina Creel, and the revelation of Selina's sister works in perfect harmony with crisp writing and fantastic art. When she is done her run on Catwoman, I would love to see Joelle Jones take on Batman.

Jones is a brilliant storyteller both through word and imagery. I can't wait to see Selina unleash her wrath on this dude in the next issue. And I've got to say that the metallic line of comics, including this issue's cover, is very unique.

Catwoman (2018) #5

Nov 16, 2018

The level of darkness Raina Creel radiates is unleashed, especially in the case of her youngest son (or is it stepson?). The sequentials in their simplicity are straight to the point with minimal prose, making it an easy read and sometimes so quick they have to go back a few pages to pick up what was missed. The fact there is incentive to take a second look is proof of the engaging method of storytelling Joelle employs. Jones has reinvigorated Catwoman in the same way that the late Darwyn Cooke had years earlier by not ignoring what's canon and expanding on that foundation. In short, one word sums it up and is the highest and most relevant in this character's case: Meow.

While Jones's artwork doesn't disappoint and the plot device of a dead child makes for a recurring arch-villain, her sequential art is at times hard to follow along. I'm sad to say that the conclusion of Copycats is the weakest of her first arc on this book. What was billed as a big battle became something on the level of a domestic dispute. Still, her art and writing has convinced me to stick with the book because big plans are on the horizon.

Catwoman (2018) #7

Jan 23, 2019

While I like how they're trying to reconnect Selina to the overarching Batman plot, it's the art that threw me off slightly and loose ends like Creel. Overall, the second part might prove me wrong, and I will gladly recant any slights that I misjudged, but when you have a creator that's both writer and artist on a book, you expect that same quality after a six-issue arc. When a new artist takes over, the different visual aspect of the book affects the writing slightly and this can either be good or bad for a book depending on the quality of the plot itself. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing what Penguin wants with Selina and how it will affect her life in Villa Hermosa.

Catwoman (2018) #8

Feb 24, 2019

Jones is a smart writer in using the artifact and its powder as a plot device to draw Selina back into the Creels' business. The art is tight and fight choreography was amazing. I just would like to know more about this woman Selina stole from. Every character is a throwaway until they are given substance and characterization. Even the great Harley Quinn was once a throwaway character. Anyway, the use of Adam's fate as a precursor to a further confrontation between Catwoman and Raina is a good decision and I look forward to seeing what becomes of him after being brought back. Further, I'm interested to see if Selina can claw any information Oswald has on Holly. See you next time.

Catwoman (2018) #10

Apr 19, 2019

While the art is an improvement from last issue and the cliffhanger offered some resolution, there are a lot of disconnections and missed opportunities. If Blanco is coming back next week he has to work on his animatics in conveying Selina's flow of motion. Cover art quality is good but lacking in relevance to the interior pages. Good points on showing Maggie still traumatized and paralleling that with a Pet Semetary-esque Adam Creel. I feel that Jolle should get back to the interiors because the initial artwork established a tone. While Fernando tries to capture it, it's still a different style. This book has promise, as does its plot, but the eyes tend to wander a little too much.

Damage (2018) #1

Jan 19, 2018

Despite the fast-paced composition, this is a very strong introduction to a future power player in the DC Universe thats validated by an established antihero team. The artwork is tight and my one regret is that Daniels pencils ends at the cover. While Vendittis pencils are awe-inspiring, I was hoping to see Tony draw the first issue. But thats a very small complaint to a great issue. Perhaps the limited dialogue works in its favor. I look forward to the second issue, and those who read this review should do so too.

Damage (2018) #2

Feb 25, 2018

In spite of small setbacks, this issue was strong and kept the mystery man angle up; it holds the reader as much as the action. The art is strong and the writing is tight, albeit a little fast in a few places. The cover is awesome and doesnt give too much of the internal plot away.

Punchline (2020) #1

Nov 16, 2020

Tynion has fleshed out what will grow to become a strong presence in the DC Universe. Punchline's manipulation of both the system and the public proves that she can step out of the shadow of The Joker if she chooses. And based on her revelation to Leslie, that's what she fully intends on doing. The personal consequences her movement inflicts upon Bluebird's family will perhaps make a nemesis out of her moreso than Batman.

What caught me right away wasn't just the time travel, but the settings. I'm fond of anything taking place in Rome. The art team created future settings which still managed to carry a feel of old-world vintage.

Swamp Thing Winter Special #1

Feb 10, 2018

In spite of some notable flaws, both stories bring out the best in the character and honor the legacy left by one of comics most brilliant writers gone too soon. I sincerely wouldve loved to have read that miniseries. Thank you, Len, for Swamp Thing, for Wolverine, for your run on The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, and every relevant title for both Marvel and for DC. You will not be forgotten and can never be replaced. Your legacy, and especially a certain muck-encrusted mockery of a man, is left in capable hands.

The Demon: Hell is Earth #2

While stunning artwork and both dramatic and humorous writing, a lack of a synopsis at the beginning of the issue or dialogue that picks up from the first book leaves you confused.
