Batman & Robin: Year One #9 blends heart, heritage, and high-stakes tension into one of the best issues of the run so far. Waid and Samnee are crafting something special here, an all-ages story that doesn't shy away from emotional depth or real consequences. If you're not reading this series yet, now's the time to jump in and start your own Dynamic Duo tradition with someone you care about. It's the kind of story that earns a reread and a place on the shelf for sharing. Read Full Review
This noir-style storytelling is something that both Waid and Samnee have dabbled in before, primarily at the competition, but it works surprisingly well here. It captures the vibe of the early Batman comics this would take place in, while adding a new level of emotional truth. Read Full Review
Waid's modern masterpiece.
What a beautifully written Alfred. They really must reverse his death in the main series. His lack of presence in mainline Batman is felt each passing year.
How does Waid do it?
A plan, A set up, action, explosions, loss, grief, discovery, murder, betrayal, etc - all in one book.
Samnee is just awesome in every panel.
This book is so great! With a great twist for the final act.
Both this issue and the previous one are the best chapters yet. Waid provides a clever twist this issue that I was half-expecting, but not in the way he delivered it. The emergence of Two-Face as a series villain is also a highlight for me. Alfred steals the issue with a perfect, heart-tugging scene. I’m eager to see how Waid wraps things up in the next three issues!
