The overall story was great and this was a good issue. My criticism mainly comes from judging the arc as a whole. However, I still think the the creative team gave us a fitting end to the conflict. Greg Pak's arc culminates with a knock-down, drag-out battle with Superman and Supergirl facing their brainwashed relatives. Supergirl's struggle actually proves the more compelling of the two, with brief, frequent flashbacks alluding to her past in Kandor. This is another good chapter in the Superman's Joker arc. While I could have gone for a bit more Xa-Du and some loose ends were wrapped up too conveniently, Batman kicking ass with his knee and brain makes up for it. All in all Batman Superman #20 was a fun read despite the few flaws. It proves why Phantom King is a great and under used villain. I recommend givingBatman Superman #20 a look since it follows continuity for older readers while giving new readers an epic action heavy issue. Read Full Review
Okay, way to stick the ending Mr. Pak. It is nice to see the dawn after seeing the darkest times before it. While the battle in this issue and how Xa-Du is defeated were sort of missteps for me, the rest of this arc was pretty meaty. This was a dark trip for Superman. We saw him have to deal with a darker sort of villain. And now we have a real Kandor to become part of the Superman mythos. Read Full Review
The standout part of this story, though, is the conflict that the Phantom King sets up for Superman. As mentioned in the book, it is a very Joker-like problem for Superman to solve giving him only very bad choices with which to save the Earth. Superman overcomes his personal qualms about attacking his own family and only through this and the typically ruthless intervention of Batman the Phantom King is overcome. Read Full Review
Overall, this issue is worth the $3.99 price tag, especially if you have been following the progression of this arc deliveringa solid ending.My hope for the future of the series is that Batman gets a larger role in this book, but I may have to wait a little longer as we face another Superman crossover event post-Convergence.
