Lastly " and I have to hit on this because I review Red Hood, too " I'm not certain if Freddie E. Williams strictly kept to red Hood's new look or did a combo of his classic look and the new one. Because when the Bat Family shows up, it looks like Jason Todd is wearing the old Red Hood mask. But then on the final page, the shadows make it hard to tell which mask he's wearing. Either way, I like how Williams draws Red Hood. Though I will say, personally, I hope he's rocking the old helmet with the new outfit. Seems like an awesome combo. Read Full Review

While it's kind of thin on story, this issue more than makes up for it with great character work and an undeniable sense of forward momentum. This is just insanely fun comic book storytelling that seeks first and foremost to entertain, which is precisely what a team-up between Batman, his family, and multiple versions of the Ninja Turtles should be. Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #5 does a fantastic job building the maximum amount of hype for the finale of "Crisis In A Half Shell" event. James Tynion, Freddie Williams and Kevin Eastman combined to further all the character arcs that have been in development throughout this series. Batman's arc in particular is the standout of this scene as we see how important Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Red Robin and Red Hood truly are to him. It all works to deliver an ending that will get every Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan excited for the final issue of this series. Read Full Review

There's one more issue to go and it looks like we're headed for an epic finale, but this series wouldn't have worked nearly as well if it wasn't for the humor, the family vibe, and the character development that happened alongside the action. Overall, Batman/TMNT III #5 is a bit of a down issue, however it sets up some necessary pieces in place to wrap up whats going on throughout the series in the finale.  I look forward to seeing how everything concludes next month but at the same time I think the concept here has also run its course. Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III hasn't done a great job of capitalizing on the fun potential of its premise. Its fifth issue offers a taste of that untapped potential, but the supposedly epic battle that makes up the bulk of the issue is shapeless, taking up space rather than telling a story. First off, the art is always a blast. Batman has had a number of artistic versions, but the Turtles really have one classic one. Staying true to that - color and b/w, matters not - was a smart move. Love it.

The story...Largely a big fight with the multiversal element that has run throughout the series. Strange side conversations within fights, some with poignant moments. Characters up and leaving fights...like that is possible. ("Sorry, empathy-free robot, I have to leave to do something else. Go fight that guy!")

But in its weird comic booky way, it works. Krang sitting in Anti-Monitor's belly works. Greyscale turtles and color turtles work. Batman deciding to use the Bat-signal to call in the Bat-reinforcements works. It's a fun romp, something that the DC line really needs more of.

Some of the dialogue was longer-winded than I would have liked. I bet someone could draw a straight-line relationship chart between overwrought dialogue and the number of universes in play for a given book.

Small gripes aside, it's still an enjoyable book. more
