DC Zoom has created a wonderfully delightful universe that is for CHILDREN. Yep. Comic books for kids. When I was a kid, there were no superhero comics for me. I was thrown right into the world of a dark and dirty Gotham City. I was 14 when I furious called into a 1-900 number to literally save Jason Todd's life. Spoiler alert, I was out some money to my parents and he didn't make it. The idea that kids can just be handed a book like Black Canary: Ignite or like any other Zoom title and feel safe in knowing that the action will be intense, but there will be no blood splatters or nightmare inducing villains. In a world where kids are not allowed to be kids, DC Zoom is a breath of fresh air. This book is near perfect. Give it as a gift to your budding superhero fan and get her or him started the right way. There is plenty of time for them to read Bird of Prey, for now, let this be their Black Canary. Black Canary: Igniteis a great addition to DC's line of YA graphic novels and is the strongest of the bunch. Cabot gives Dinah an origin story that fits the imprint and the character well. This is a must-read for fans of Black Canaryand has enough easter eggs hidden in its panels for any Birds of Prey fans as well. The book is also a great pick for anyone who has enjoyed Cabot's work in the past. Read Full Review

I had a blast with this collection, which is a brisk 144-page read. McGee's art is constantly clever throwing in interesting wrinkles to capture the emotions fo the characters well. Give this book a shot and I guarantee you'll want more from Dinah and her journey in becoming a superhero.  Read Full Review

The character is one of the big selling points here, but the top one is probably on the cover " experienced young adult author Meg Cabot, one of the biggest names in fiction and the woman behind the extended Princess Diaries series. I think this is a fun novel to read, no matter the age. You can have a lot of fun with this comic and it gives a charming story to Dinah. As we were reading, we found ourselves nostalgic about our middle school days because Dinah was such a powerhouse. The narrative further adds to the positives of this novel. I would also say if you loved the original character in the DC Universe, then you will appreciate this wonderful coming-of-age story. Read Full Review

So again, I am not the audience for this book. But the audience it is for will love it. It has a decent story and I did enjoy the art by Cara McGee. All in all, it is not a book that will change the world, but it does entertain, even if only for a little bit. Read Full Review
