The Atlantis subplot was pretty neat.
The snow falls thick, blood runs black, and color itself is only a distant memory. The legendary assassin Deathstroke stalks a frozen wasteland, killing for coin among a nation of ever-warring jarls. But when our murderer for hire finds himself cast in the role of reluctant guardian, will he fight to end the icy curse destroying his land or be consumed by the sins of his own dark past? The red-hot Dark Knights of Steel epic expands into bone-chilling new territories with new surprises in store!
Fans of the first Dark Knights of Steel will get the most out of Allwinter. However, it is surprisingly accessible to newcomers despite being steeped in the lore of the original Elseworlds. Regardless, fans of the sword-and-sorcery genre will find this book fantastic in every meaning of the word. Read Full Review

Allwinter is a solid expansion to the original Dark Knights of Steel and I'm glad that DC sees value in this fantasy-inspired take on their superhero universe. Taylor ushered in a bold and dangerous ethos with the original miniseries and Allwinter, at least at the outset, appears ready to continue this. Read Full Review
Overall, Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #1 is a promising start to a new Elseworlds tale. While the slow pacing and lack of action might deter some readers, the intriguing world-building, compelling protagonist, and seeds of a larger conflict make it a worthwhile read for fans of dark fantasy and Elseworlds stories. I recommend picking this issue up and taking this series for a test drive. Read Full Review
Dark Knights Of Steel: Allwinter #1 is only the beginning of what looks to be a swashbuckling epic. Jay Kristoff imbeds his world with a sense of culture, utilizing Norse mythology and vocabulary to texturize his cast and fantastical setting. Alternatively, this is also a standard macho action drama with meathead phrases like “Never saw a spell that an axe to the face couldn't end.” Tirso's incredible illustrations are certainly the main event, but I've already reviewed a similar technique with the same character in DC Vs. Vampires: All Out War. Moreover, the tangential inclusion of Heir Of The Sea feels unnecessary. That said, I really enjoyed the artwork and overall tone of both stories, and will be looking forward to more. Read Full Review
Nice plot. I think the DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL is one of the funnest elseworld in recent history. The art is incredible.
I honestly didn't think I'd really like this, but I wanted to give it a shot. Glad I did, despite being a little slow and involving characters I don't really care about much it built an interesting world and got me interested in the characters. The art was pretty, but [intentionally] drab. I'll be sticking with this one for now.
This setting has felt a bit like a waste of time, and sadly, this story doesn't seem to be doing anything to redeem it.
I'm not sure who's idea it was to put this in black and white, but it was a mistake. Then charge us $5.00 when you eliminated a color artist, making the production of the book cheaper. There is no story here. Nothing grabs the reader, in my opinion. It's just a dud. The second story lead-in was better, but Ma and Pa Kent? Really? I won't be continuing this? One and done.

The plot was extremely boring (in both stories) and the artwork in the first story is way to muddled to work in BW.
