DC / Hanna-Barbera: Green Lantern/Space Ghost #1

Fans of Lethal Weapon and shows like Life on Mars will find a lot to love about the Green Lantern/Space Ghost Annual. James Tynion IV, Christopher Sebela, and Ariel Olivetti really go for the gusto here and it pays off big time thanks to their tight scripting, snappy banter, and sweeping science fiction visuals. Team-up books like this are usually a mixed bag, but thankfully the Green Lantern/Space Ghost Annual #1 quickly stakes a claim to being the exception to the team-up slump. Read Full Review

Green Lantern/Space Ghost sounded promising when it was announced, and the finished product doesn't disappoint. This issue forges a strong bond between the two space cop heroes and manages to tell a poignant story that avoids recycling too many of the usual crossover tropes. The fact of the matter is that, as far as I'm concerned, DC is leaving money on the table in not giving us a whole buddy cop graphic novel of these two testosterone-ing each other to death while saving the universe. When it comes to stories like this one, I tend to gauge how much fan service there is and for my money there could have sneaked in a few more references, but the ones that are there should be enough to satisfy any fan of either series, especially when you see Space Ghost handled a Green Lantern ring and actually struggling to use it. Green Lantern/Space Ghost gave almost gave me enough of what I wanted, I wasn't a big fan of the art, but I can appreciate good storytelling when it's right in front of me. If you're a fan of either characters, do yourself a favor and pick this issue up as well. Read Full Review

A reasonably touching story and some unbelievably great artwork makes for one solid issue of a comic book. This one, specifically. Don't know if I want too much more of it, but I liked what we got. Green Lantern / Space Ghost Special #1 is the fun mashup that I'd hoped it would be while also being a thought provoking tale.  While the special is a good read the team up of Hal Jordan and Space Ghost is one which could have more legs if given the opportunity.  For the cost of the issue I'd rather have had more of this team up than the "Ruff N' Reddy" backup story that I really didn't care about or enjoy.  Eight out of ten lanterns. Green Lantern/Space Ghost Special is a pretty nifty space parable meets superpowered buddy cop adventure. The art isnt the greatest fit, but James Tynion and Christopher Sebela turn in an interesting, yet wordy script that is entertaining, humorous, and will inspire you to tear off your own intellectual shackles and learn more around the world around you. The comic demonstrates that superheroes and philosophy go better than Oreo cookies and chocolate milk, or an episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast and an early morning hangover. Also, the next Hanna-Barbera crossover should be Larfleeze/Zorak, who make funny cameos in an early double page spread. Read Full Review

A great read for Green Lantern and sci-fi fans and a good read for fans of a straightforward Space Ghost, but not for anyone expecting a revolutionary interpretation of the latter. Read Full Review

The issue works for the unusual team-up of Space Ghost and Hal Jordan, both while fighting each other and, for a short period of time, using each other's technology. The story's lack of subtlety gets in the way, but the art by Christopher Sebela is pretty damn good. Worth a look. Read Full Review

When I read the first issue of Future Quest, I noticed that Space Ghost was very close to Green Lantern. I thought that a cross-over would really please me. Well, here we are!
This issue is remarkably original. The interactions between those two space-policemen is definitely the best part of the issue and both characterizations are successful. The art is also incredible and peculiar. It fits well with the tone and the environments of story. Now, the only thing I could ask for is a Space Ghost solo series!

This issue was the best Hanna Barbera crossover that was released this week, with a great team up between two of the greatest members of their respective universes. It had a perfect amount of tomfoolery with true emotional development.
