I actually thought these last two issues were a little better overall (for the main story), but I think this book is being carried by the backups, which are generally much more interesting. It doesn't help that this feels like it's being written for the trade (unlike the main series, which works well on an issue-by-issue basis) so it feels like we're being given the story in pills.

Oct 18, 2022DC Vs. Vampires is more often not, hit or miss. Issue #4 is a hit, but not by much. The highlights include the artwork, the use of certain characters, and overall tone. The plot is still doing a handstand on the side of the Hoover dam, and has the structure of a standard zombie flick, but like a man doing a handstand on the side of the Hoover dam: it's hanging in there. In the penultimate issue, the suicide mission against "Baron Cinder will need to push things to a satisfying climax. Read Full Review

The main story has gotten strong. First time both the main story and the backup are pretty good.

This is a surprise Mary Marvel book and its better for it because wow, they really found interesting stuff to do with her in this setting.

Mary Marvel is by far the best part in this story, I'm actually invested in her part. Midnighter and Starfire were fun as well. The backup is excellent as usual.

The main story is getting better, but it feels very decompressed, hope it can stick the landing and be a stronger read when put together. The artwork also flip-flops between absolutely breathtaking amazing pages and pages that are pretty messy in terms of panel reading.

Another great issue, once again I must point out the consistency in pretty much everything. The humor continues to be spot on, I think it is safe to affirm that the jokes are the highlight of this series. Alongside with the plot that just moves at the right pace. And last but not least, the action. That fight between Midnighter and Prometheus... Now that's why I read comics. And that also serves to encapsulate everything this series gets right. This is a short one since I'm late and probably everyone already gave this a read, regardless of that, another recommendation.

While the action was fast-paced and fun in this issue, the writing was a bit scattered. There were some plot-holes that kind of bothered e too, but nothing that killed the story for me.

Gets a 4.0 thanks to the backup which isn't great but is readable. As for the main story, no comic has ever left me feeling this stupid. The artwork leaves me lost, the plot and dialog confused. It all goes right over my head. I have a feeling everything is actually quite simple, but obscured due to art I find difficult to understand despite the use of shading and some tones, and dialog that I think is trying to be clever but comes off to me as oblique. I keep buying this to stick it out, as I have good will based on enjoying the main series, but this is the last book I read each week, and I approach it with a big sigh, like taking bitter medicine, knowing that each issue is likely to baffle me more than the prior one.
