Amanda Wallers covert war against the United States reaches the boiling point as the Suicide Squad takes the White House!
With New Suicide Squad, Ryan works a lot to set a measured tone and wry sense of humor, as DC's badass office boss Amanda Waller rebuilds the Suicide Squad, and it is amusing to see what has become of both Black Manta and Harley Quinn. Read Full Review
This is one of the better Futures End issues so far. Sean Ryan wrote a good issue with some well thought out plot points. The art was impressive and effective for the grim tone of the story. This issue continues the trend of fun issues from the members of the New Suicide Squad. Read Full Review
To be honest, I did like the issue because Sean Ryan's script told a fun story, but the details felt weak and unrealistic to me. Combine that with the fact that the cover to this issue is completely misleading, and the problems emerge one by one. Sean Ryan throws in quite a few twists to the story but they don't really address the weaknesses of the script and that's a shame. Read Full Review
New Suicide Squad: Futures End #1 is mindless fun that will make you smile for a bit before you let it slip from your memory. This is by no means a vital story and fans of the regular run may get a kick out of it, but won't miss anything if they skip it. Read Full Review
If I could give this issue a 10 out of 10 for pre-teen Joker twins and a teenage Deathstroke, I would. But even though there are several appearances of characters that will make you either laugh out loud, chuckle in embarrassment, or freak out in excitement, New Suicide Squad: Futures End amounts to nothing more than an action-fest with little emotional or meaningful impact on the larger narrative. There are a few interesting ideas at play, but on the whole the story reads less like an extension of Futures End and more like a What If? plot where each character is transformed in some silly and pointless way. Read Full Review
SUICIDE SQUAD: FUTURE'S END #1 ultimately fails to deliver on its own promises. Despite some tight pacing and interesting ideas, the execution is ultimately lacking. There have been great issues to the Future's End month, but unfortunately, SUICIDE SQUAD is not one of them. Read Full Review
Overall: I was really disappointed with this issue, and I'm honestly concerned about the direction that they plan on taking this book. Aside from Lawton's opening and closing piece, there's really nothing worthwhile here unless you want to see experiments gone wrong and clones having it out with one another. It's just not my cup of tea. Read Full Review
Aside from some of the visuals, nothing really won me over or made me feel like this is something that should be read even though it's essentially a one-shot. I was torn between 2 and 3-stars, but seeing as my reactions on this issue are mostly negative, I have to side with the lower score. Maybe some of you will think the changes are a twisted delight and you'll have a blast with the short adventure. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me. Read Full Review
I'm not mad Sean, I'm just disappointed. The buildup from the last issues just made for an even bigger let down for this one-shot that packed a lot of potential. I will say that there are some graphically violent panels, one that makes me cringe even thinking about it so kudos to Coelho. Hopefully we get back on track with issue #3 next month. For all of those that read this book before you looked at this review, I'm sure you were thinking the exact same thing as I was once you put it down, "WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST READ?!?!?" I read this issue an hour ago and I passed the time by literally staring at a wall contemplating on what a terrible issue this was and who exactly gave the okay for this issue to be put on store shelves. This had potential to really be great. However, it didn't quite reach any real memorable point. The art was ok, one cool fight scene, but that's really it. I'd only recommend for the same reasons I bought it: to complete the New Suicide Squad collection, because I love everything Harley Quinn, for just one more comic to go through this week. None of those reasons hit ya? Then skip this one.
I was very optimistic about the story when I Waller laid out her mission to Deadshot and explained his "injury" ....that all ended with "fishstick" . There were some fun ideas presented and Andre Coelho does a nice job with the over the top violence but it just didn't come together in end.
Could've been good. Wasn't.
