The love that Josie Campbell, Doc Shaner, and company have for Mary and her world is downright infectious, and I hope this isn't the last time we see their brilliant work on this corner of the DCU. Read Full Review
Campbell has set things in motion for Mary. Her powers may not be terribly new or engaging. The distinct personality of an overachieving college girl in the form of a powerful superhero feels compelling enough. Mary has made quite a bit of progress in four issues. Marys development with the writer will continue. Campbell has one more chapter with Mary this month on January 24th in the one-shot Lazarus Planet: Once We Were Gods. Then Mary and Josie face an even bigger challenge in March as the new back-up feature in Wonder Woman #797. Read Full Review
The short length of this series is its main drawback, as while Mary's characterization is top-notch, the story is a little rushed. Read Full Review

Aside from some occasional weird characterization moments this was a fun mini-series and a solid showcase for Mary Marvel. Read Full Review
Josie Campbell and Evan "Doc Shaner created a fun conclusion with The New Champion Of SHAZAM #4. Mary Bromfield is put over strong and given a villain that is easy to hate, leading Mary's arc to be even more satisfying to see her succeed. This all makes you look forward to what is next for Mary's character in the DC Universe. Read Full Review
As much as Ive always liked Billy Batsons Shazam, I love Mary Marvel more, and despite a few stumbles this issue, Ive really enjoyed The New Champion of Shazam! mini-series overall and I hope Mary continues as the flagship Shazam character for a long time. Read Full Review
I wish this ending was a bit more solid, but overall this was a really enjoyable miniseries.
What a crash and burn issue. From the offensive She-zam, to the don't call her lady this or that to the villain being defeated by a rabbit bite - it was more of a joke than a Shazam comic. First of all, she was never called "Lady" anything. She is Mary Marvel. The whole reason the Marvel family had that name is because they can't use the name Shazam. If they introduce themselves as Shazam they instantly change back and that would be awkward. What is wrong with the name Mary Marvel? I don't get it. It's like they are forcing her into taking Billy's mantle for no reason. She was always her own character, but now they are saying she's derivative. Major disappointing issue.
