I know that in the end everything will come together in an explosive arc conclusion, but at this moment, there are so many moving parts and background figures still getting their hands dirty that everything feels fresh and new. What I have seen and experienced in all of the previous issues in this current run (City fall and Donnie's near death to name just a few) has reaffirmed my love for the TMNT property, but more importantly the creative team that has been telling these stories month in and month out has my complete faith with the outcome of issue 50. While it doesnt necessarily have any significant standout moments (although the sheer scale of the Mouser/Flyborg threat probably qualifies), this issue serves as the latest instalment of an incredibly consistent series, and one that doesnt seem to be showing signs of losing momentum any time soon. Mixing nunchuk-twirling cowabunga action with emotional heft and eyebrow-raising plot twists, TMNT is one of the finest licensed comics available today, and is absolute essential reading for any Turtle fans out there. While I didn't enjoy this issue quite as much aslast month's, it was still pretty good overall. Iloved the banter between Mikey and Donnie as his "Robo Bro". Also seeing the Shredder of old back in rare form was a great sight. I know things are building and it's so palpable you can taste it, I just wish we got a bigger piece this time around. There's a moment toward the end of this issue where the team comes together, back-to-back, ready to defend one another from an onslaught of mousers. The rest of the story, however, is a little disappointing. Compared to the high stakes conflicts we've had before, the most exciting thing about this story arc so far has been the connecting covers. Add in the scenes of status quo Shredder and Baxter Stockman being predictably obtuse, and the whole thing feels a bit stale. It's basically straight action throughout the issue. So much time has been investing into establishing this rich cast that it seems effortless the way that each character is woven into the plot and how they interact with each other. Everything is set in motion and now it's time to sit back and enjoy the well-earned fireworks.
