INFAMOUS IRON MAN #4 is a fantasticissue. I was hesitant to begin reading this series when it was first announced, but I'm very happy I decided to get on board. Bendis has a knack for writing complexcharacters, and while I found his depiction of Iron Man to be good but slightly over the top, his portrayal of Victor is, in my honest opinion, very unique yet interestingly true to the character. There are two stories here, equally entertaining. The first is professional in the constant struggle Doom will deal with if he ever hopes to make his role as Iron Man permanent. The second is far more personal as Doom returns to a war-ravaged country which hasn't fared well in his absence. Returning to find Ben Grimm, Doom finds much more than he bargained for including a confrontation in the next issue which should go quite a ways in telling us which path Victor von Doom is destined for. Doctor Doom is just plain cool as an icy, no guff hero who expects everybody to just be on board with his new heroic persona. Bendis is getting a lot of mileage out of that, and I'm excited for all the ways this story can expand. Read Full Review
However, I don't know where this evil Mom thing is going, and I'm not a huge “magic” fan in comics, so I'm crossing fingers this gets out of the first arc and is pushed aside for more asskickery. Read Full Review
It took a few issues, but this new series has succeeded in justifying both Victor von Doom's turn to good and his decision to shroud himself in Iron Man's image rather than his own. The result is a drastically different take on Doom, but one that both honors the past and plays to Brian Bendis' storytelling strengths. Read Full Review
Infamous Iron Man #4 overcomes a tedious opening scene with a characterization of Doom that shows the beloved villain still resides within this new version of the character. I still maintain that Bendis is not the right man to steer this new Doom into the Marvel Universe but he’s not completely screwing it up so far, it’s actually somewhat decent. Though make no mistake, Alex Maleev is the real star of this book and I would say you should pick this book up for his art alone. Read Full Review
Well, I was hoping for better than that. Nothing really happens this entire issue as it falls victim to being the 4th issue in the arc, so entirely setup. It's still fun to see Doom as a “good guy,” but I would like to move the story forward a little bit. Read Full Review
This is a great issue in what has been a very fascinating series so far. Von Doom returns to Latveria to find it in a shambles, leading him back to Castle Doom where his mother awaits. Not a lot of advancement plot-wise, but another strong character issue. I'm really enjoying Victor in this role.
You gotta love to hate Doom's arrogance. It makes for interactions fun and interesting. I'm glad he finally saw what is happening to Latveria and is going to do something about it. The art of Maleev is impeccable and you can see the difference in effort he put in. While in SHIELD it was very bland and bleak and in Latveria kinda more full of life. I really can't wait to see what happens next.
