• The Incursions aren't the only horrors threatening to end the world!
• DOCTOR STRANGE has faced the impossible time and again as an Avenger and the Sorcerer Supreme, but when he is called upon to fulfill an old debt to an enclave of techno-monks high in the Himalayas, even the good doctor may be beyond his limits!
• Written by acclaimed young writer Frank J. Barbiere (Five Ghosts, The White Suits) and illustrated by the illustrious Marco Rudy (Swamp Thing, Marvel Knights: Spider-Man), this oversized annual is one you won't want to miss!
It does not take possessing the Eye of Agamotto to see how outstanding New Avengers Annual #1 is. Barbiere and Rudy craft an Annual that is a must buy for Strange fans and a must read for fans of what Hickman is doing in New Avengers. Read Full Review
Barbiere and Rudy knock one out of the park with New Avengers Annual #1. This comic is a brilliant compliment to the events of New Avengers and the creative team delivers one of the best Doctor Strange stories I have ever read. The artwork is mind bogglingly good and I demand an SDCC announcement for an ongoing Doctor Strange series from these two creators. The world of comics needs more stories like this, and I cannot recommend this comic more highly. Read Full Review
Beautiful artwork, fantastic story. This issue makes me wish Marvel was putting out a monthly Doctor Strange title by this creative team. Read Full Review

NEW AVENGERS ANNUAL #1 costs $4.99 and it's well worth every single penny. And the best part of it all? It's 100% new reader friendly. You can go into this issue with absolutely zero knowledge of the current NEW AVENGERS volume or Doctor Strange and you'll never feel left in the dark. It's a great spotlight on the mystical character and it has legitimately phenomenal artwork on each and every page. Seriously, you don't need to be a fan of Stephen Strange to fall in love with this issue Read Full Review
The ish from Frank J. Barbiere (Solar: Man of the Atom) revisits a pivotal moment from Strange's past while he simultaneously battles a badass, universe threatening demon monster. I'll be honest, I'm typically story first when it comes to comics, art usually comes second but by the hoary hosts of Hoggoth is Marco (Swamp Thing) Rudy's art in this book amazing! It's honestly one of the most gorgeous books I've seen in a ages and any long time Strange fan will tell you that the Master of the Mystic Arts has a knack for bringing out the best in comic artists. Doctor Strange fans should adore this book, but newcomers will find a nice introduction into the character as well. This is a must read. Read Full Review
I cannot imagine that Strange is an easy character to write. The rules of magic in the Marvel Universe seem to be in a state of constant flux and Strange was always at the very eye of that narrative nightmare hurricane. With New Avengers, Jonathan Hickman leaned into the skid of Strange being all-powerful and sat him at a table with other titans, as well as a hefty power upgrade, at the cost of his soul. With New Avengers Annual #1, Frank J. Barbiere and Marco Rudy reintroduce us to the man behind the Eye of Agamatto, warts and all, with a gorgeous single issue that makes a very strong case for a solo Strange ongoing. Stephen Strange sold his soul to have the power to save every reality, but he still makes house calls. But don't worry, you can trust him - he's a doctor. Read Full Review
In conclusion, go buy this book. If you don't, you are missing out on one of the best books that I have read this year. "New Avengers Annual" #1 is a work of art and I will be crossing my fingers that Marvel gives this team a shot at a Dr. Strange solo book. Read Full Review

New Avengers Annual #1 is worth the $4.99, it is one of those annuals that you want to go out of your way to pick up. It has its connections to the main series, while giving you something genuine centered around Doctor Strange. Frank J. Just a few images short of being the definitive Doctor Strange story, but complete enough to be a perfect primer for what comes next "New Avengers Annual" #1 is an impressive offering from Barbiere, Rudy and Caramagna. With recent developments on Stephen Strange's migration to the silver screen, readers are going to be looking for Doctor Strange stories to whet their appetite and this one is a must. As the time draws nearer, it is almost a certainty that Marvel will find a way to give Strange his own series and this comic book is a masterful audition from the entire creative team. As a stand alone issue that exists outside of the main story of "New Avengers" that explores the consequences of Strange's actions in the main story, Barbiere and Rudy have knocked it out of the park. As a possible pilot for a solo series for the character by the two of them, this is a rousing success. Frank J. Barbiere brings his talent for weaving genres to the character and really delves inside the characters mind in a way that few writers have in a long team. Teaming him with Marco Rudy, though, was what really made this issue special as Rudy brings an unconventional eye for artistry and design that, while it echoes the likes of Dave McKean and David Mack, feels perfectly suited to the character and a wholly original take on a character that is soon to be on everyone's radar. If Marvel is paying attention, they would let these two write and illustrate as many Doctor Strange stories as they want if they can make them as good as this. Read Full Review
With strong writing and beautiful art, then, this issue is a standout comic book, and treat for any fans of Doctor Strange. There is one sticking point, however, that might be off-putting for some: the price. This being an annual, it comes with the obligatory $4.99 price tag. And while the story itself is amazing, and does clock in at 30 pages, the issue comes with nothing else to justify the price hike. Still, this is ultimately a very small complaint, and there will no doubt be many people who are willing the pay an extra dollar for very strong work. Read Full Review
Though predictable in some ways, New Avengers Annual #1 offers a satisfyingly trippy Doctor Strange adventure. Read Full Review
This is a great annual that I've actually never read. The art is amazing and the writing is top-notch.
I wish they would let Barbiere do a solo Strange book, cause I could read this all day. Beautiful artwork made you feel like you were in a Sandman comic.
One of if not best single story issue hat Marvel has released since the Marvel Now reboot.

Happy to see that Marvel is making up for Dr. Strange not having his own book by delving into the Supernatural Universe with their Annuals. The story was great, but the art by Marco Rudy is the real reason this comic is #1. There wasn't a single traditional panel to be found, and I absolutely loved every page. I haven't seen art this good since J.H. Williams III in Promethea. Rudy accomplishes what Michael del Mundo has been trying to do with Elektra, but it works so, so much better here.
I loved that the art was modern and surreal AND I could still tell what was happening. Great story!
Don't trust all the good reviews. The book is good but its nothing new, if you know Doc then this is more of the same. I think people are a little to excited about the character right now.
