SAM WILSON SOARS AGAIN!

When Captain America attends a birthday party for Isaiah Bradley, he catches wind of a new tech venture that sounds too good to be true: magnificent floating platforms in the sky, where the disenfranchised can apply for land grants and establish their own farms. But after Sam discovers the organization's dark underbelly, he'll have to tangle with its head of security: Red Hulk! Greg Pak (INCREDIBLE HULK, WEAPON H), Evan Narcisse (RISE OF THE BLACK PANTHER) and Eder Messias (PHASES OF THE MOON NIGHT) join forces for a high-flying Cap adventure!

Sam Wilson, Captain America #1, bursts onto the scene with soaring action and excitement. Sam Wilson deserves the shield and the entire team takes the opportunity to showcase why. It's been a while since I have been excited for a Captain America run and this has me very much intrigued. Make sure to pick it up! Read Full Review

Overall, I'm invested enough to pick up the second issue next month. Whether I stick with it beyond that will depend on how much the next issue resonates with me. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker Jan 1, 2025

This opening chapter doesnt contain scathing anger; it is a celebration. Its more about remembering than trying to get vengeance for anything. Its warm and welcoming, with exciting action sequences, too. Captain America remembers the community that came before the costumes. Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - Dispatchdcu Jan 1, 2025

Overall, Sam Wilson Captain America #1 shows promise. The creative team has assembled an interesting concept with potential for meaningful storytelling. However, the pacing feels off, and the plot developments feel rushed. The inclusion of Red Hulk is a fun hook, but it remains to be seen if hell be more than just a big, red punching bag. While the art is strong, the story needs to slow down and breathe in future issues to truly take flight. This issue is worth checking out for the premise and the art, but it needs to find its footing to truly soar. If the creative team can iron out the pacing issues and delve deeper into the themes theyve introduced, this could become a truly great Captain America run. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett Jan 1, 2025

Sam Wilson: Captain America #1 is an interesting concept and there's something there but this first issue is a rough one. There's too much to groan about to overlook the flaws and appreciate what it's trying to do. Too much bad distracts from the underlying good. Read Full Review

This first issue attempts to tackle a lot. While filled with social commentary, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it leaves little room for developing the core mystery of the Eaglestar company. A better balance between story and commentary is needed. The art is good but not spectacular. I'm curious to see where the rest of the series takes us. I believe Nick Spencer handled the Sam Wilson version of Captain America the best, and I haven't seen the character written as well since. I see some potential here, but only subsequent issues will tell.

A Promising Cover Masks a Flawed Execution

The cover art and the intriguing premise of teaming up Red Hulk with Sam Wilson initially pull you into this comic with high expectations. However, the execution leaves much to be desired. The storytelling suffers from a slow and uneven pace, riddled with plot holes that make little sense (like the sudden, unexplained vampire attack on a soup kitchen).

Despite the artist's clear talent, the artwork struggles to salvage the narrative. There's a particularly memorable panel featuring over a dozen superheroes, but their static poses and lack of engaging action feel like a missed opportunity to utilize such an exciting lineup.

The dialogue is another weak point, often h more

This is beyond eye-rolling. Greg Pak was involved in this??? The pandering is cringe worthy. This is "By Odin's fade" levels of bad. Ross just takes the classic misunderstanding between heros trope to new levels because the writers needed it 2 happen. Bad writing. Bad comic.

Really did Steve dirty in this, forget about how much he's been through. According to the writers Steve is privileged. Anyone who starts off a comic with vampires attacking a soup kitchen should immediately be unemployed, and to top that promoting segregating superheroes because "white people bad bruh".

    Go to hell.
