I loved that we were given a one-shot with a look back into the life of Gambit. It was the perfect way to come back from the X-Manhunt event and find our footing right back into the lives of the Louisiana X-Men. Read Full Review

This story was a fun, if not vital, glimpse into a new corner of the Swamp Rats history. It's well worth picking up. Read Full Review

Guidry creates some beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the character designs and how the art pulls out the emotion of the characters in a story that is focused on them as people. Read Full Review

Uncanny X-Men #12 is a well-drawn, basic, action-packed, one-and-done story about Gambit revisiting a rough character from his past. Gail Simone's one-shot is fine if you just want a solo story starring Gambit, but on every practical level, this issue is forgettable. Read Full Review

I can't put my finger on exactly why, but it invested in these new kids haha. I love how weird Ddathdream is but how the others don't ignore him and just let him be unique. Also I think gambit is a harder character to write than people think and this book has been doing a great job.

I quite enjoyed this little tale from Gambit's past. Not being a huge Gambit fan, I don't know if this is the first glimpse into his childhood, but it certainly adds some depth to our Cajun X-Men. The Vig is an interesting character that I hope we'll get to see more of. Unfortunately the art is very inconsistent. I'm torn between finding it charming in its simplicity or simply not very good. It definitely works better in the flashback scenes.

From the UXM bunch, this is the best edition so far. It is very satisfying as an oneshot, and maybe because just that, finally UXM pacing finds a solid footing this time - a problem other issues struggles from, especially after the crossover events. This time, though, the story comes out smooth and seamless (if not for the ever present problem of no subtext - but in this oneshot format, this lack of subtext isn't as unforgiving due to redundancy, expositive dialogues and panels repeating themselves. this is, though, a big - and ongoing - problem with the other issues that are more inserted within the main arc.) Gambit's inner dialogues sound like him, and the villain is competent and charismatic. Would like to see more of the Vig around New more
