But Why Tho? - William Tucker Sep 3, 2025

Uncanny X-Men Issue 20 is one about the boys. Everything about this series is incredibly well-executed. The recent selection of character-specific issues has been fantastic, and it was the turn of Wolverine and Ransom to take the stage. It felt rewarding to delve into the minds of two figures who never want to speak up because there are other, more pressing problems. Read Full Review

There's only been 20 issues of The Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone, and somehow she's created so many different happenings within the pages. With so much happening, Simone has perfectly written each arc to flow perfectly. The Uncanny X-Men #20 is no exception of this, and continues to prove why Gail Simone is the perfect person to write these fantastic stories. Read Full Review

Uncanny X-Men #20 is a rich issue packed with character development for Ransom, Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, and Monet. While some in the online community dislike the Greymalkin story, this comic adds a new layer that leaves readers wanting more. Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - Dispatchdcu Sep 3, 2025

Uncanny X-Men #20  art & atmosphere feel immersivea runaway train of action, and wheezing tension. The dialogue captures the essence of Wolverine and Ransom without fanfare and the pacing suits the storylean, intense, and rough around the edges. However, the narrative might leave readers craving deeper stakes or emotional depth beyond the brawling. But that may not be the point of this installment. If youre looking for sharp panels, stamped-in grit, and brawlers doing what they do bestthis issue delivers. It may not dazzle with pathos, but it roars with spirit. A solid installment in Simones run, styled for fans who live for claws, punches, and that smell of danger on the street. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez Sep 3, 2025

Uncanny X-Men #20 is a prime example of a comic that gets lost in its own exposition. It mistakes a heavy dose of descriptive text for a compelling narrative, resulting in a tedious and boring reading experience. The lack of a captivating plot, combined with uninspired art and uninteresting characters, makes this a forgettable chapter in the Uncanny X-Men series. Read Full Review

Simone (and McKay over on X-Men) continue writing great character stories. They were the perfect duo for resetting after the Krakoa stuff, in my opinion. The Outliers are great, and Ransom gets some much-needed fleshing out in this issue. Of course Wolverine makes the perfect chaperone for the task at hand, and I'm interested in whether the bad guys here are future major players or just a throw away group that won't be heard of once Ransom moves on from his connection to them. I'm assuming they're going to have to wrap this up quick, with Age of Revelation coming. Probably quicker than I'd prefer, so if I have a complaint it's probably that I wish they had saved this story for after the event.

Simone is continuing to cuddle her Outliers, but overall, this was an entertaining read. Vecchio’s art is growing on me too.

I’m not sure I like Ransom’s background story though. The character and his powers already made him very similar to Sunspot. Now we learn that his origin is also not that different, which is just lazy. If you can’t come up with an original new character concept, why not just use the characters you already have?
