Sep 18, 2023This all being said, however, the lettering works and whilst it's not the most creative lettering, it does get the story across and the story is very good. It also doesn't clash too much with the beautiful illustrations so the experience of reading this book is still very satisfying. I highly recommend you take a look at this issue, and if you're a character designer there are definitely some really cool choices being made here that could inspire your designs too. With each appearance Genesis is positioned as a terrifying villain. It makes what Storm and her group are doing being given greater importance. Sep 13, 2023Ewing and nar expertly weave a complex story with numerous twists and turns. Every major character feels compelling and has a role to play in the overall narrative. Every feat is exceptionally creative. Every twist, well-plotted. In developing the Genesis War, the book is doing an excellent job of also developing a new IP for Marvel Comics that could very well have a part to play for years to come. I am absolutely down for some Fisher King backstory, and what we got here was very intriguing. I also enjoyed seeing the present-day stuff dealing with the ongoing war on Arakko. I'm definitely interested to see how Fisher King factors into this current storyline given the increased focus on him here. While I wouldn't say this was my favorite issue, it does provide some very nice setup going into the next issue. This war storyline continues to keep me interested and I'm looking forward to seeing it all unfold.

There are plenty of nice developments in the war story, and they're all illustrated well. Still, the broad scope and the frankly too-big cast nearly strand this issue on the low side of good. Fortunately, the REST of the issue reveals the Fisher King's backstory. It's crushingly cool/bleak stuff, showing him as a tragic figure and painting a grim portrait of life under Genesis/Annihilation. This insight elevates the issue almost all the way to greatness.
