Besieged!
War has returned to the world of Gorin - but, this time, the planet's ravaged armies face a threat from the stars, not within! Now, as the intergalactic assault reaches a critical peak, it falls to Gorin's newly coronated emperor, Aric of Urth, to fortify not just a kingdom, but an entire world! With his sentient armor to aid him, the Earthborn warrior once known as X-O Manowar will confront the conquering force known as the Mono Men on the field of battle...but if he doesn't act fast, his reign will end just as quickly as it began!

Reading this newer interpretation of one of my favourite characters of all time was a little difficult to get used to at first. Now that we are nearing the 10 issue mark I feel like the story has found it's groove and is hitting the ground running. I really hope that Matt Kindt is on this book for a nice long haul, nothing is more frustrating than having to start a series over again with a new creative team when the book is as amazing as this. X-O Manowarhas been one hell of a ride so far as Van Lente and the art team give us a comic where the story is just as exemplary as the art work in each issue. Truly one of the best series on the shelves right now. Read Full Review
X-O Manowar has been a fantastic series this whole year with it's revamp. This issue is no exception and shows that it has only gotten better. Read Full Review
X-O Manowar #8 is a solid conclusion to the first chapter of Aric's time on the planet. The stage is wonderfully set by Aric's somber interactions with his comrades. And the battle itself is intriguing and varies from earlier battles with an enjoyable climax. However, the ending reiterated the challenge facing Aric after the final battle but that message is conveyed better at the start of the issue. But I'm looking forward to the next story arc and seeing how Aric handles his new responsibilities. Read Full Review
Kindt maintains a great balance between showcasing the scope and drama of the battle while keeping the focus squarely on Aric himself. The question is less whether he can succeed than if he can do so without losing touch with some vital part of himself. That makes for a very somber, emotionally resonant story of war (even if the final page is a little awkward and on-the-nose). Read Full Review
It's a game-changing story by writer Matt Kindt, with dark but powerful artwork by Clayton Crain and Reynato Guedes, and it sets up lots of interesting possibilities for the future. Read Full Review
X-O Manowar #8 reads as a thank you to creators who brought him to fame, and a promise to fans that Aric will reign for a long, long time. Read Full Review
The story is simple and enjoyable. The artwork is absolutely amazing! This is not a jumping on issue for new readers, so if you're not reading X-O: Manowar you need to be jumping aboard with the next issue! This is one of the best books on the market!
The decision to separate Aric from his armor was a good one, to remind us that he is always a warrior, with or without the suit.
