The 2017 X-O Manowar has been amazing so far but this issue is truly captivating. Matt Kindt, thinks of new and unique and engaging ways to tell a story and showcase the core themes of his run on this series. Add to that beautiful detailed artwork with great colors and you have a book that is a great example of why we read comic books and why it's a medium that still is important and is as valid a medium for story telling as books, movies and tv. With beautiful artwork and a fantastic story, X-O Manowar is a series comics fans cannot afford to miss. Each month this run is near the top of my pull list even with so many new comics vying for my short attention span. For those who have not tried a Valiant book yet, I recommend picking up a copy of this issue and last week's Bloodshot: Salvation to see how good independent publishers are. Read Full Review
I'm trying very hard to not make a "chink in the armor" joke, but that's what's happening. Each issue shows more and more flaws, or, perhaps a better way to put it is that now the momentum and novelty has worn off, the flaws are more evident. Regardless, X-O: Manowar moves too fast, doesn't develop the characters or world enough, and lacks any real tension or suspense. It also works within the highly problematic "white savior" archetype"something that should really be jettisoned from our stories. Again, the art is what makes this worth the price of admission.
