You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

The whole issue quite casually opens-up with a jaw-droppingly deep look at one of Diana’s most overlooked powers: her beauty. It’s mentioned at the beginning of ever Golden Age Wonder Woman story: she is as beautiful as Aphrodite. Thompson does a clever bit of background at the opening of the issue. Aphrodite’s feelings on this are registered for what might be the first time ever. There’s a curse that comes along with htat power and Aphrodite never had the occasion to have it turned back on her...until she started spending time with Diana. It’s a deeply moving 4-page opening scene. Wow. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

Absolute Wonder Woman #19 is yet another phenomenal entry in DC Comics best series. Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, and Jordie Bellaire show us how every action has a consequence. Whether that is good or bad depends on the characters. That along with the revelations made about what makes Diana of the Wild Isle adds a whole new layer of intrigue for her relationship with other people and the world. Read Full Review

If you needed a reminder that the Absolute Universe isn’t playing it safe, Absolute Wonder Woman #19 is it. Kelly Thompson takes “divine grace” and flips it on its head, turning it into a source of isolation for Diana that fundamentally changes how you view her journey up to this point. Read Full Review

    Fanlight Zone - Ken M.

The high cost of love might be too much for Diana and Zatanna to pay in another epic chapter of the Absolute Universe. Thompson drives home the painful choices made with an excellent script. Sherman and Bellaire craft absolutely incredible pages with the art. Few series can come close to the high quality on display with this series. Read Full Review

Kelly Thompson continues to weave a compelling narrative, blending elements of Greek myth with a modern sensibility. I particularly enjoyed the opening exchange between Aphrodite and Circe, where we learn that Diana has inherited a portion of Aphrodite’s power to compel love. Read Full Review

Despite the problems with this arc, Absolute Wonder Woman continues to be a great alternative to the mainline Wonder Woman title and like any ongoing comic series, you’re going to have growing pains, some worse than others. You just have to take some ibuprofen and keep on chucking. Read Full Review
