As has been the case with this series since issue #1070, Action Comics #1079 has a great Superman story and a disappointing Supergirl story. Waid continues to give us a wonderful Superman story full of action, excitement and engaging personal moments that incorporate many eras of the Man of Steel. One should ding the issue for the lackluster Supergirl story, but the lead story is so good, it just doesn't feel right. Read Full Review
Action Comics #1079 puts the "Action" in Action Comics, while also showcasing Michael Shelfer's artistic skills and featuring appearances from nearly every DC hero. Read Full Review
Oddly enough, now that the Conner and Kenan side story is finished in Action Comics #1079, things feel a little rushed within the main Superman tale. There seems to be some interesting themes being glossed over for the sake of over complicating the resolution of the original plot.To me, the Supergirl story has gotten way more compelling and socially relevant as it's gone on and I find I'm more interested in how her story will end up playing out. Incredibly, something actually happens in this chapter. There is a little action. There is a couple of nice moments for Kara. But as usual, Supergirl still isn't the hero in her own story. Still, this is probably the best chapter we have had so far. Read Full Review

If this was a 6-8 issue monthly book the story and art could be tight and really good but as we get further along the quality has dropped across the board.
As for the Supergirl backup well it’s gotten more interesting these past few issues but should it really take Nine issues for anything to happen?
I said it when Action was announced weekly that I thought it was madness doing this at a time when they were launching the Absolute Universe and when people’s disposable income is less. People will have choices to make about what to keep or drop and lik more
Big down grade in the art department.
And tamaki continues the long snooze.
This arc is going way long now.
Can we have a massive kill off of characters soon? Kill the entire Super family with the only one who survives is Conner. Boom there is your #1100 issue ending. Kill them all and focus back on Superman. Put all the supporting characters back where they belong in supporting roles. (Ex: Lois, Jimmy, Perry White) Make Action Comics a Superman book again. No one cares about these characters. The only reason I buy every month (Week now...) now is to keep my run going, it isn't because of the writing or art.
