Batman 2021 Annual #1 serves as a solid conclusion to the Ghost-Maker backup story that's been running in the regular series. Hey DC, forget about Punchline. Ghost-Maker is the breakout character you should be focusing your attention on. Read Full Review
There's nothing left by some loose ends for James Tynion IV, and one of those loose ends is filling in the blanks on Ghost-Maker. The mysterious villain who started as Batman's deadly rival and seems to have become his snarky partner in crime has been kept in the shadows until now, but this issue finally peels back the curtain. Overall, Batman Anual 2021 is superb and hopefully brings Ghost-Maker his own series. Tynion has been on a roll with creating new characters with the potential to be new favorites. Lopez and Tynion's balance for the issue works to help develop who and why Ghostmaker was created. The only knock on the issue is how long it took to be concluded. Read Full Review
A satisfying and long-awaited end to the Ghost-Maker saga from Batman backup features earlier this year. Ghost-Maker as a character has a great deal of potential and this annual has only just started to really explore that. As it stands, it is an effective exploration of his history and abilities, with additional insights into his motivation and his dynamic with Batman. Read Full Review
The Batman Annual 2021 is a worthy addition to the recent canon and serves as a nice exit point for Tynion. As a method of filling in the blanks of a key character's past, it's a thoroughly enjoyable and eventful read. Ghost-Maker's a character with a lot of creative fuel left in the tank and it's surely only a matter of time before we see him appear again. I, for one, do hope that we get him back fairly soon due to the side of Batman that's unlocked by his very presence. Until then, enjoy this book and start the waiting game. Read Full Review
Batman 2021 Annual #1 gives Ghostmaker fans one last bit of information before Tynion leaves DC Comics, and while I'm not sure we needed an Annual to do this, time had run out. The issue looks good and has some good action and interaction, but I'm just not sure it was necessary. I guess that depends on whether you needed more Ghostmaker in your life. Read Full Review
Batman 2021 Annual #1 is the finale to those Ghost-Maker backup stories found in Batman #107-111, and it's the origin story we should have gotten all along. Read Full Review
Batman 2021 Annual #1 is, generally, wildly better than the majority of Tynion's Batman work but it suffers from a lot of the same pitfalls, especially in that it feels more like an imitation of something else rather than an authentic creation. Read Full Review
I did not like Batman 2021 Annual #1 because it was nothing more than a conclusion to the Ghost-Maker back-up that ran through Batman that I despised. Read Full Review
This was a pretty fast-paced conclusion to the Ghost-Maker backup stories, but I really enjoyed it. The story was just fun, but I wasn't crazy about the art. Lopez's art is very stylized, and I think it worked in some places and not so much in others. Some of it just looked to obscure/abstract for my liking. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the final chapter of this Ghost-Maker story and I'm looking forward to reading more of him.
More of the fast-pace, unabashed anime influenced style as the back-up feature running in Batman the last few months. If you enjoyed that, you’ll enjoy this. If you hated the back-up, don’t buy this.
At long last we finally have an end to the Ghostmaker saga. The storytelling device was a little contrived and while I can appreciate the manga/anime influence on the story and Ghostmaker in general, it's not really something I connect with at all. I'm not sure where the character goes from here honestly.
Well, I didn't like the backups and I really didn't like this. Uninspired and uninteresting. Like... I don't know who this was for, but someone likes it apparently. I'm so glad this run is over, let's hope what's next is better.
Ghostmaker is so bland, I couldn’t care less about him, and this story is boring as hell.
With Tynion as a writer, Ghost-Maker can beat Thanos, Darkseid, Darth Vader and The Beyonder all at once without even breaking a sweat.
