Brett Booth’s art is glorious in both scope and execution. I don’t know if this guy could pencil a quiet independent book, but man, can he kick the ass of an action epic. DC has chosen to use a sideways vantage for this story. In other words, the pages are set up horizontally like a calendar. Booth takes full advantage of each page, cramming as much action into every panel as will fit, and then hitting us with explosive splash pages. Booth’s work is a gut punch of constant action. Yes, the majority of the story focuses on the Batman/Superman/Mongul situation, and while it is entertaining enough on its own (It is a Batman vs. Superman fight after all), without the more ground-level, human story that bookends the superfight, this issue would not have had nearly the impact on me that it did. BATMAN/SUPERMAN #7 is a good looking dose of popcorn entertainment. The plot is very standard, everything is wrapped up a bit easily and the entire premise may even be too out there for some of you, but it's still an enjoyable ride and there's a nice amount of heart tossed in there as well. This is absolutely an arc that would translate especially well to an animated movie. It may not grab onto your emotions, but it does a damn fine job presenting all of the frenetic chaos in a delightfully cinematic fashion and there's a nice underlying message, too. Read Full Review

This issue was definitely entertaining and had lots of great action and some nice interaction between Superman and Batman as you would expect. While the plot is a little convoluted it's not silly enough to take you out of the experience if you don't go into the issue taking it seriously, and to be fair after the last two issues I think we're all used to the upbeat tone that Greg Pak is trying to achieve. All in all this was a nice ending to a very entertaining story arc so long as you don't take it too seriously. Read Full Review

Batman/Superman #7 never came off as a story where the outcome was in doubt. Like so many other stories about DC's mightiest heroes, they find a way to defeat the powerful villains that plot against them. But it's the unique manner in which Superman and Batman defeated Mongul that makes it satisfying. It did not follow a traditional path. It took the concept of gaming and made what could have been just another battle against an unruly space tyrant into a spectacle. It won't overwhelm anybody with melodrama or suspense, but it is still entertaining and insightful. It reminds everybody that video games are as close to being Superman and Batman as they're ever going to get. Read Full Review

Other than that, there really isn't much to say about this issue, because it's shallow. The plot isn't anything layered or deep, in fact, it feels like a bad action movie. At times, this can be fun to read. The issue kind of bounces back and forth between being really good and mediocre. It creates a mixed bag, inconsistent issue that is just Ok. It's kind of annoying really, because it's not downright horrible, or worthy of being completely bashed, but at the same time, it's really hard to give it any praise. Read Full Review

Though Batman/Superman #7 ends the current arc well enough, the reason for Monguls defeat is paper-thin and uses a comic book trope to explain away logic and realism. Granted, a story about a video game where people take control of actual individuals isnt that realistic, the idea that Superman could change the rules of the game at the last minute is kind of lazy and drags the entire arc down. This issue and arc as a whole was plain dumb fun, portrayed well with great and colorful art. But, one could find fault in that as well, as this arc, which didn't really have much depth, followed an arc just full of character depth. Now I know this video game-centric story is meant to just be fun, and mainly there for a popcorn factor, but the this issue fell short for me.  The fun and whimsy is lost, and replaced with super science explanations, and non answers for how anything in this world works.  I know it's just a comic, but everything wrapped up nice and neat, and without a real explanation on how, just seems lazy.  That being said this was a fun story as a whole, this issue being the end just lacked the fun we were given in the last two issues.   Read Full Review

Capping everything off is the fact that this conflict ends on such a quiet, unremarkable note. The script directly references the superhero team-up trope of two heroes putting aside their differences to fight a common foe. From there, Mongul is tossed out of the fray as quickly as he appeared. It's all very anticlimactic. But the good news is that the conflict is finished, and hopefully the series can get back on track with its next story arc. Read Full Review

The conclusion to one of the most outlandish storylines I've reviewed in some time is rather unfulfilling. Most of the comic is made up of a Batman vs. Superman fight scene that goes nowhere and the real conflict between Mongul, the gamers, the nanobots in Batman's body, and all that pollen is shrugged off in just a few speech bubbles worth of exposition. Its bland emotional core is too heavy handed to have a lasting impact, and for a comic starring two of DC's heaviest hitters, the story fails to capitalize on the trademark.
