Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4 drives the story closer to the finale in unpredictable ways that are just plain fun. Tynion & Williams are excelling at making the best pieces of both worlds work together with this crossover and, assuming it finishes as strong as it is now, I'm going to be real sad to see this one go. This is an entertaining comic and if you grew up enjoying either of these franchises, you need to do yourself a favour and let James Tynion IV, Freddie Williams II and Jeremy Colwell blow your mind with this great series. Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a story worthy of all the crazy crossover fantasies fans have cooked up over the years. Issue #4 continues building a compelling conflict for our heroes to wrestle with, but the focus remains on exploring and celebrating the unusual bond between Batman and his mutated comrades. While this issue could be written off as setup, it sets up some pretty important things along with adding a great character to the mix and getting Batman and the Turtles all on the same page.  Plus, it all ends with a crazy cliffhanger that promises even more craziness coming real soon.  Sure, it wasn't perfect, but Tynion and Williams continue giving fans of both franchises something to have a ton of fun with. Like this series has been so far, much better than it had to be. Other than a fun little sparring match there's very little action, but the strong dialogue helps move things along. Rather than using it to allow Bruce to brood and wallow in anger and darkness, Tynion usesthe death of Bruce's parents to show his empathy and understanding so as to better connect with the Turtles. It's scenes like that and those smart choices that have helped make this a solid, genuinely entertainment my series. Read Full Review

one of my favorite issues yet!!! ...the series i finally in full swing and now that all the players are established we can get to some good old fashioned story telling. with the shredder having destroyed the Turtles only way back to their own dimension it's only a matter of time till the mutagen becomes rendered inert.
but not all of the Turtles are convinced of Batman's true intention as a crime fighter. Raphael believes Batman to be nothing more than a rick thrill seeker and storms out of the Bat-cave. Batman finds Raphael and asks him to join him in a tour of Park Row. Batman brings him to Crime Alley and explains to him what happened to his parents and why he now feels the need for his war on crime.


...now some may argue that well established characters like Batman and the Ninja Turtles do not need to have their origins retold again and again. in a series where characters have never met before and are meeting for the very first time, YES they do need to make their proper introductions! ...and with the fact that an event this HUGE, this may very well be a new readers
first comic book who knows absoluletly nothing about these characters? so to assume everyone has read as many comics as you have is absolutely selfish.

...ok! back to the rest of the Turtles, a hit on the Bat-computer shows a rift opening up from the Turtles home dimension that someone or SOMETHING has come to Gotham that will greatly change the series of events! and we are set up with a cliff-hanger leading to the next issue.
...... i must add that the sparring session between Batman and Leonardo was seriously a DREAM COME TRUE for me!!! seeing two of my favorite comic heroes spar was probably one of my ALL time favorite moments in comics! ^__^ more

Where this book loses me, is the same place every single iteration of Batman loses me- the same tired and rehashed Crime Alley origin story. I would have really liked an artful and humorous cutaway at the moment that Batman leads Raphael down Crime Alley to tell him the same story we have heard/seen a thousand times over, seeing the same pearls on cobblestone. It just immediately made me groan out loud. Beyond that, I don’t have a lot of negative things to say about this book, but that one cheap and lazy waste of pages in this issue just took me all the way out of the book. I was still able to enjoy Mikey’s skateboarding mishap, and Casey coming ALMOST to the rescue. The first few pages felt very forced, and the end of the book brings them around in a bit of a predictable fashion. The next issue looks to be the best thus far in the series- with **SPOILERS** Batman and the turtles squaring off against mutated Arkham inmates. I like the art and covers for this series, and other than this issues one big groanworthy moment, it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve read, but for a book that is trying to hook readers who are only tangentially interested in Batman OR the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we don’t really need an origin for either of them to be laid out in front of us in full, because if you are a human being with eyes and ears and the capability for basic cognition, then you already know Batman and the Turtles’ origins. more
