Batman, Robin, and Bane must escape Dinosaur Island. But they are not alone! A dangerous presence has taken over and won’t let anyone leave the island alive! Can the father and son dynamic duo return to Gotham or will this be their last adventure together?!
Batman and Robin #13 is a near-perfect issue that showcases the talents of its entire creative team. With an emotionally resonant narrative, stunning visuals, and pitch-perfect pacing, this issue is a must-read for fans of the dynamic duo. Joshua Williamsons final chapter is a fitting tribute to Damians growth, leaving readers with a sense of closure while honoring the legacy of Batman and Robin. Read Full Review
While Juan Ferreyra only came on late in this series, he really is a perfect fit for this arc drawing monsters just as seamlessly as he does the quiet moments between Batman and Robin. Read Full Review
Batman and Robin #13 is about broken people being loved and how that act saves them. It ends Joshua Williamson's run with a heartfelt send-off, expressed through Juan Ferreyra's gorgeous watercolors. It resolves all loose ends and paves the way for PKJ and Javier Fernandez to take the helm for DC All-In in October. Damian Wayne is the heart of this whole book, and under Batman's loving shadow, he shines as his own star. Read Full Review
Overall, Batman and Robin #13 stuck the landing for what Joshua Williamson set out to accomplish. This arc in particular found a fine balance between fun action and more serious concepts like trauma and closure. Juan Ferreyra did a lot of the heavy lifting for readers, and it just goes to show the trust Williamson put in Ferreyra because another artist on this arc might have been less effective. Batman and Robin #13 was a beautiful issue that pulled at my heartstrings whilst also making me smile. I hope all of us out there who have had issues with our fathers/father figures find the same healing that Damian and Bruce find Until then, see you next issue, same Bat-Site, Same Bat-Reviewer. I am sad to see Williamson's run end; it has been a stellar book. Read Full Review
The Dinosaur Island arc was pretty solid and a good way for Joshua Williamson to end his run on Batman & Robin. While this concluding issue didn't necessarily meet my expectations, I still thought it was worth reading. Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Javier Fernndez take over as the writer and artist respectively starting next month in the DC All-In relaunch, so I'm intrigued to see the next chapter. Cheers! Batman and Robin #13 is a surprisingly emotional issue as Damian finally comes to some truths about himself and his relationship with his family.. Read Full Review
It doesn't make up for the rushed Dinosaur Island wrap-up but it is enough to make this a solid conclusion to Williamson's run on Batman & Robin. Read Full Review
This mini story arc might not be the most original concept ever, but with dinosaurs and Bane it's incredibly fun. I love the parallel being drawn between Bruce and Damian with Bane and Vengeance. Bane's decisions are kinda tropey, but make sense and I like this characterization of Bane. Framing the story within a meeting between Damian and his new school counselor was a nice way to illustrate Damian's emotional growth.
The absolute best thing, however, is Juan Ferreyra's art. He is my favorite regularly active artist today. Just beautiful art with no flaws, great action scenes, everything is just a delight for the eyes. Sounds like he won't be with the book going forward, but I'll be buying whatever he moves to for sure.
overall, I think Joshua Williamson's run on this series ended strongly. I am going to miss it, and if PKJ's run on this run isnt as good. At least Joshua Williamson's run ended strong.
Well, Williamson's run ended with a dud. Characters here acted completely out of their personality. Batman removes his cowl and puts up his hand to block a dinosaur instead of fighting it. Damien calls himself "loved" when he's the one Robin who shies away from the touchy-feely stuff. I did like how he created the relationship between father and son, but overall his run has been meh. Let's see who is coming on board for the next run.
