"The Long Payback" part five! Payback's vengeance against Batman is almost at hand, but the Dark Knight's allies won't let him perish without a fight. When help does arrive, will Payback decide that killing those closest to Batman is the sweetest revenge?
I can't believe the raw expression they were able to get on Payback's face. I honestly wasn't expecting it, and I have to say it hurt my heart a little to see him like that (even though I don't like him in the slightest). The action sequences were fantastic as well, which is a plus. I loved the use of brighter backdrops in this issue; it contrasted nicely with the darker subject being discussed. Read Full Review
There's a lot going on in Batman Beyond #18, bringing in new villains, new heroes, and a great twist ending. That all comes together to make this maybe the best issue of the rebooted series. Read Full Review
Batman Beyond has been going on for 30-something issues now since the DCYOU, and it continues to positively surprise every single issue. Read Full Review
As I mentioned earlier, Mr. Jurgens has given us a real twist in this tale. While Payback has returned to torment Batman, he's not the man we once knew. His plans for Terry and Ten are crystal clear, and decidedly deadly. Will the new Boy Wonder arrive in time to save the day? Come back here next month, same bat time, same bat channel, to find out. Batman Beyond is uniquely its own entity, and not beholden to the continuity concerns of the greater DCU. And that's what I enjoy most about it. Its familiar but fresh, and its enjoyable to see the possible future for the Bat-universe. Keepit coming. Read Full Review
I've really been enjoying the Rebirth version of the title but I have long felt that the one thing missing from the Batman Beyond mythos was a Robin, and Matt was the obvious choice. I hope that this sticks, and that Matt is allowed to continue his career as the Robin of the future. Read Full Review
Batman Beyond #18 is a solidly entertaining superhero read. The story is interesting, theres plenty of action, and the Neo-Gotham setting always offers familiar-yet-new possibility. The artistic team provides some solid work too, and the comic earns a recommendation. Check it out. Read Full Review
Though much of it is the same one-dimensional fare we're used to, Jurgens bravely makes his mark on the mythology with a couple of big changes this issue. If you're a disillusioned fan of the series, you may wish to tune back in for this one. Read Full Review
Batman Beyond continues to disappoint, even with a reveal this issue, but really, who didn't see this twist coming? The art is decent, but this title really needs to go away for awhile and figure out if it wants to be its own continuity or just a continuation of the animated series. Read Full Review
This issue was kind of underwhelming in my opinion. I've wanted to like this story because I've enjoyed Jurgens' work with Superman, but I haven't really been able to get past the plot holes. Between Stalker's quest to feed to his people and the emotional story of Kenneth Stanton's life, it feels like this story should have much more heart than it does. I expect the next issue will explore how Batman and Ten escape Payback. I'm sure we will also see Terry's reaction to Bruce letting Matt go out as Robin without consulting him. I'd also like to see some progression in the subplot regarding Melanie/Ten's relationship with Terry. Read Full Review
Like many issues in this series, Batman Beyond #18 is a totally lackluster affair. The art can be fun at times, and the dialogue is never too bad, but the tone of the book never really feels right. Read Full Review
A decent book that could be so much more. Could really use a reboot. The art is sometimes too cheesy and the story, as I said many times before, is not bad, but really not that good. I will dropping this title after next issue.
