I enjoyed this summer special immensely. It made me both laugh and feel sad, I felt a fondness for Superman id personally not felt before and was great to see these villains outside of their usual settings. A must buy for any dc fan to own this summer. Read Full Review

DC's new wave of anthologies continues on a seasonal schedule, and Beach Blanket Bad Guys #1 may be, top to bottom, the highest-quality volume they have ever put out. Read Full Review

Still, there's a whole ton to like here. It's more than worth the price of admission. I hope DC keeps going with this idea and keeps the quality high. This was mostly a lot of fun. Read Full Review

Sure, some of the stories are a little more on the nose or thematically dark, especially in the last thirty pages of the issue. But there's just so much that stands out, and is essential reading for fans of the expansive world that DC has created. Read Full Review

It's hot out. It's very easy to get sluggish and sticky in this weather. Find somewhere cool, kick back, and let your mind expand in some harmless fun. Well, until the Owl Man story on Earth 3. Read Full Review

If you've got a vacation coming up and will be doing some traveling, this book might be the best companion for you: by plane or train, this collection of summertime stories provides a nice range of emotional highs and lows, an excellent array of art, and no true stinkers out of ten very different stories. Four of the stories are centered on Bat-related characters, but you're just as likely to find some true gems far afield from Gotham. Either way, this is 80 pages of quality content and sure to keep you entertained. Read Full Review

The anthology is a little less silly and more character driven the the silly title and fun cover let on, but this is still a perfect summer read. Read Full Review

Beach Blanket Bad Guys Summer Special #1 is a diverse sample platter of adversarial analysis, satisfying as ice cold melon slices, grilled ballpark hotdogs, and carnival midway funnel cakes. The diabolic nature of these main characters, however, may have you frisking the cooks rather than kissing them. Read Full Review

The Batman Universe - Paul Shanly Jul 27, 2018

This was an enjoyable anthology special featuring some strong short stories. The standouts for me were the Mr. Freeze and Gorilla Grodd stories, but the whole book from start to finish was entertaining. This is a worthwhile read for a summer afternoon. Read Full Review

Ultimately I think that Beach Blanket Bad Guys is worth the pick up and read, as you get 10 entertaining stories, written and drawn by both veteran and upcoming talent, spread across 80 colorful pages. Some stories do stick out stronger than others, but I feel like there's enough here to pique anyone's killer instinct. Some of the stand out stories to me include, the crime syndicate in "Independence", Giganta in "Giganta Strong", and Black Manta in "Icy Embrace". Read Full Review

Weird Science - Reggie Hemingway Jul 25, 2018

As expected, it's a mixed bag of mostly fun stories that should have little effect. Ten bucks is a bit much for this; I would have liked it a bit more at eight dollars. Nice batch of visuals, though, for your money. Read Full Review

This took a lot of energy. A lot of these stories were forgettable but there were some gems in the bunch that I really enjoyed. However, is it worth the massive price tag to read three or so good stories? That depends on you, so go into it with an open mind. Read Full Review
