It was a dark and stormy night when the creatures of the DC Universe began to emerge from their lairs into the cool evening air. Tales of the macabre, the murderous, and the morbid abound in this spine-chilling special about monsters and mayhem! What happens when Batman encounters a true urban legend after speaking its name three times in a mirror, or when Madame Xanadu enlists the help of Man-Bat to take down a shadowy specter? And who can stop an intergalactic demon from turning people into frog beasts? Only the unlikely team-up of Green Lantern and Etrigan! All this and seven more fang-tastic tales to trick your treats and bob your apples.
The Doomed and The Damned #1 is a collection of 10 tales, with luminaries like Garth Ennis, Mike Spicer, Alyssa Wong, Marv Wolfman"and so many, many more adding their talents. The tales are short and sweet, but are fully in time with the season. Every one of them is a little world, and the creators bid you welcome. Read Full Review
There's nothing quite like a collection of spooky stories compacted into brief tales from different minds, and with DC's expansive roster of seedy locales and grittier characters, it's got quite the foundation to take on such a task. Read Full Review
I love mixing characters! Tom Taylor does it in DCeased and it works! The more these characters interact, the more we buy into the world of DC being interconnected! Great issue at a great time of the year! Kudos to all authors on their stories and again, Riely Rossmo's art is super cool! Read Full Review
This is a great collection with standout stories throughout. The first two are well worth the price of admission and there's a good smattering of mainline superheroes and lesser-used characters too. DC: The Doomed and the Damned is a good example of how a publisher can use their own characters in a holiday-themed book for maximum effect. Read Full Review
Overall, another strong anthology without any real weak links, even if no stories reach the highs of the best installments from other recent anthologies. Read Full Review
I'm so glad that DC has continued this tradition of the horror anthology each year. DC The Doomed and the Damned is another solid entry in this. It shows how you can have a ton of scares in the DC Universe, even with characters like Wonder Woman and Superman. Sure, they're saving planets and averting crises most of the time, but others are filled with demons and other monsters. Read Full Review
I enjoyed it very much and I am looking forward to the next one of these treasury editions! Read Full Review
Overall, this is a fun read. Not as scary as it I wanted it to be, and a little more uneven than I also expected, it nonetheless has enough strong elements to make the whole worthwhile. I'm sure a little inventory was used here too. For a seasonal special though, it'll do. Read Full Review
Heh heh heh. Bueno!
Grief's Quiet Name: This wasn't bad. It wasn't spectacular or anything. It was decent, even.
Urban Legends: The writing here was fine, but the art was actually very good and that definitely bumped the score for this one.
The Shadow Over Coast City: This was fine. I don't really like Riley Rossmo's art a lot of the time, but it was fine here.
Inner Demons: Again, this story was fine. This anthology is shaping up to be pretty mediocre, all things considered.
7 Days: I actually liked this one a lot. Not sure why.
From Humble Roots: I liked this one as well. Maybe this anthology isn't a wash after all.
The Hunt: This was okay. I have a little bit of a soft spot for Cassandra Cain more
this was a big improvement over previous DC anthology series
