Overall, the only negative thing I can say about this book is that it is tainted by having Final Crisis on it. While I personally dont care for Final Crisis, I think certain books could exist just as well without having to have it connected, or not connected as is the case here, to DCs main event which has been suffering its own problems. However, this is yet another stellar chapter of Geoff Johns ultimate space epic. The Red Lanterns have made their first move and the stakes are raised in the entire scheme of things by the end of this issue. I don't think it's an understatement to call it this year's Sinestro Corps War Special and I can see this one going back to printing several times, just as that issue did last year. Fails as a tiein to Final Crisis, but kicks the Rage of the Red Lanterns storyline off with a bang. Read Full Review

If I had to find something to complain about it would be the title. Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns. So far I have yet to see how this ties into Final Crisis. At the release of this issue Final Crisis is up to issue four. So far the Alpha Lanterns have had an important role and I am nervously anticipating seeing either the Red or Blue Lanterns show up. Final Crisis Rage of the Red Lanterns #1 was a solid advertisement for the upcoming Blackest Night event. Johns made this issue as new reader friendly as possible and presented enough interesting mysteries to try and drum up interest in the Blackest Night event. Read Full Review

This story was pretty good, if a bit confusing to a novice Green Lantern reader. I am interested in picking up the next issue of Green Lantern to see what happens next, so if that was the purpose of putting the misleading Final Crisis banner on this comic, then they tricked me good! Ultimately, the energy of this seemingly obvious and simple new direction for the Green Lantern brand is more than enough to win me over, and I'm sure the same will hold true for new readers. Johns has been teasing us for quite a while with the Rainbow of Lanterns storyline, and with this special, there's a greater sense of forward movement with the story. The slow build has been successful, though. We've got a sense of what drives Atrocitus, what Sinestro's really up to and the dissent and secret discord among the Guardians. While I do have concerns about the accessibility of this one-shot, in collected form, I suspect this longer arc and those that came before will be clearer and more compelling. Read Full Review

Even with all the blood and gore, even with the deaths of even more Green and Yellow Lanterns, even with the apparent escape of Sinestro, Rage of the Red Lanterns is not an issue that totally blows - despite the aforementioned throwing up of bodily fluids.
