This shit won't sell. $1 bin bound.
The amazing story of how Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief Lois Lane got superpowers and became Superwoman is finally told. What does it mean for the matriarch of the Super family to fly alongside her family and friends? And how long will these powers last? And who wants these powers for themselves?! Guest starring the Atom, Mister Terrific, Supergirl, and Silver Banshee!
Given the abrupt ending of 'Kneel Before Zod', the hinted at 'Superman loses an eye fighting Zod' hint by Williamson in the last Superman issue, and now this, it looks like Zod is heading to Earth to start/finish his story. We still don't know where New Krypton is. Overall a great story. Fun revelations about Lois' origins and her dealing with her powers. Lois' heroism. That playful identity reveal. Kara as veteran leader. And some foreshadowing of things to come. Beautiful art. Read Full Review
Josh Williamson's Superman has done a better job with fleshing out Superman's supporting cast than any writer in a long time, making Metropolis feel more alive than it has since the Triangle Era. Read Full Review
Superwoman Special #1 is a fantastic celebration of everything that makes Lois Lane the amazing character she is. With creative storytelling and incredible art, this issue is a standout that answers all the questions weve been asking. Read Full Review
The evolution of Lois Lane comes into focus with an excellent one shot. Williamsons writing brings out the hero within. Mixing in classic theme panels with an insight into Loiss new world is pulled off with ease by the Art team. The DCU had best be ready for whats next from the Woman of Steel! Read Full Review
The question of where Lois' Kryptonian superpowers come from is answered, but other than that last-page reveal, it's a story that could easily have been handled as part of the other Superman books she appears in. Read Full Review
Superwoman Special #1 feels like more of an interlude than a special as the traditional Lois Lane-trying-to-write story is turned upside down by her status as Superwoman. A lot of gaps are filled between Absolute Power and now and the reason behind her powers is revealed. Read Full Review
Superwoman Special #1 is a solid entry for fans curious about Lois Lane's transformation into a superhero, delivering engaging action and emotional depth. However, uneven pacing, art inconsistencies, and a couple of missteps in characterization keep it from soaring as high as it could. Read Full Review
Superwoman Special #1 is an example of the issues with storytelling that plague comics. Villains should be villains, not you're closest allies. Too many former supporting characters have superpowers/ costumed identities. Stories just set up other stories. Writers have forgotten how to write characters and are far too plot focused. Characters no longer drive stories. It's all too cutesy and jokey and there is a lack of substance in storytelling. The real shame is that if Williamson were writing characters there WOULD be a story here. And, potentially a great story. Jeremy Adams touched briefly on a similar situation when he gave Carol Ferris back the Star Sapphire ring. There's more to be told with her, but there was just enough to feel like the character mattered and not just the plot. Williamson just wants to tell the story he's setting up. Overall, this is a disappointing issue with poor execution. Read Full Review
maybe because I'm a sucker for Joshua Williamson. But I really liked this issue on how Lois gets her power, and the writing for me just works. The art is consistent, and I like Lois chemistry with Lana and Supergirl
This is a hard issue to rate. I like the art, and I like the basic premise of Lois getting powers. Others have written that all the side characters getting powers like Oprah giving them away is not good. I won't argue. I get their point, and they're not wrong.
But Lois getting powers opens up a lot of story potential. Instead of the cliched "woman waits at home for her man" stories, we can get two super powered spouses with equally important missions having to fight to get couple time together. Considering how DC got rid of young Jonathan, and now he's a teen who doesn't need his parents, the potential for DC to blow this situation is great. Don't blow it, DC.
I also like how Lois, through an Amazo suit (can't say I am more
This whole arc and plot point is just unnecessary.
This was a complete waste of time. This book reiterates that there are far too many members of the Super-family. Do we really need two Superwomen? I had even forgotten the stupid idea of Lana Lang having powers. We learn absolutely nothing new here outside of the last page. The idea that the suit gave her powers is completely ludicrous. The entire idea behind Absolute Power was so bad, I didn't even read it.
The reveal could have been just two pages in Superman and done.$6.99 for this is a complete cash grab. I'm glad Williamson got paid for something this bad.
