All in all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 is the beginning of a dark turn. I'm glad that certain story elements have come to a closelike Krang and his plans for the Earth. I'm still in shock from the events of this issue. This issue will leavefans wondering for weeks on where the series will go from this point Read Full Review

I have loved what the creative team behind this current ongoing run has done since issue one. They have made my favorite heroes in the half shell seem realistic (though I know we are years away from mutagen), they have provided story arcs that tear apart the city and the turtle family. In this issue they have finally given me a mild heart attack with characters they bring back as well as quiet literally split in half. Read Full Review

With the threats of Kraang and Shredder firmly established, smaller characters have been vying for our attention as TMNT races to the finish line. Bebop and Rocksteady have gone from one-note jokes to the scariest, most threatening guys in the series, and over the past three issues, Baxter Stockman has become the coolest customer in the TMNT universe. If TMNT is to end at issue 50, I’d like to order a spinoff about the villains, please. I’m not ready for the end! I demand more! And not because there’s so many more stories to tell, but because I want there to be. If that’s not the mark of a good series, I don’t know what is. Read Full Review

The issue wraps up most of the ongoing storylines while opening the door for this version of Karai to become a more interesting character in the coming months. Issue #44 also gives us the return of Alopex and Angel along with the defeat of General Krang. Sadly it also marks the death of a Donatello whose loss will likely be felt in every single panel of the series from this point on. It's a bold move likely to enrage its share of fans but it also allows the series to break with tradition and take the remaining three Turtles on a different journey than we've ever seen before. Worth a look. Read Full Review

This is the conclusion to the storyline, so readers just jumping on board may want to wait for the trade, but, considering how good it has been, picking up the single issues may be better. TMNT fans will be satisfied and shocked with this issue, I cant stress how important this particular issue is pick it up! Read Full Review

Comic Vine - Gregg Katzman Mar 18, 2015

TMNT #44's a real jaw-dropper. It's a powerful issue that's able to balance fun, plot development, and emotion equally well. All of these moments are brought to life wonderfully by Smith and Pattison, but you'd expect no less from them at this point. It's the kind of issue that's going to linger in your memory and make you wonder about what'll happen in the next issue. Sure, I have some criticisms about the story and the biggest moment, but it's a huge and ambitious issue for this franchise. Even though it wraps up one arc in a solid way, it does more than enough to build our interest in what's to come. Seriously, don't miss this one, TMNT fans. And for the love of all that's holy, don't blatantly spoil it in the comments, okay? Use spoiler blocks, people! Read Full Review

    IGN - Jeff Lake Mar 19, 2015

The events here are sure to prove divisive, especially among longtime fans, but Waltz and Smith deserve credit for delivering this shift in as straightforward a manner as possible. Smith's final page may be the most powerful in the series thus far, so if you've fallen behind, it's high time you caught up. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Nick Nafpliotis Mar 18, 2015

And despite my (rare) criticism of Waltz, I do appreciate that it appears he isn't going to make what happens to one of the main characters an easy fix. That last page is a punch to the gut" and just enough to push this one a little higher up the rating scale. This isn't a very strong issue compared to the rest of the series, but it's still Waltz's TMNT"which means overall, it's still pretty good. Read Full Review

What matters most is the Donnie scene hits hard. I thought the battle with Krang could have been stronger but that was no longer the focus. What a powerful last page.
