Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #45 is a must read when we see what happens next for Donatello along with seeing how some of the characters deal with what happened in the previous story arc. Not only are we still excited about the recent film (though some may argue against that case), and entertained by the animated adventures from Nickelodeon (albeit it' not as good as the original animated series), but with such bold events happening in the comic world it's just impossible not to shout, "Turtle Power." There still look to be some interesting, long-lasting changes for what happened last issue carrying on with this one, even if they aren't AS grim as they at first appeared, which helps to balm what feels at first like a total fake out. The writing and art are also strong enough to tell a solid, compelling story driven by its characters, which also goes a long way to helping the swerve not come off as a total gimmick. This is still one of the best comics at balancing its light-heartedness with gritty drama, and while its hard to entirely agree with the direction this issue takes, its easy to see the quality of the creative team shine through. The final few pages leave us with a unexpected new dynamic for the team moving forward, and with the creative team subtly shifting pieces in the background to set up the next chapter of their story, I have no doubt that readers dipping into this series as a result of the increased media coverage due to thecontroversial events of the previous issue will find themselves completely and utterly hooked, kicking themselves for not picking up this title sooner. All in all, the issue was enjoyable and it is abundantly clear that the turtles haven't seen the worst yet; they may have destroyed Krang but there are still many others out for their blood. The art direction was bold and beautiful and the writing was solid, albeit slightly floored in places. Hopefully, the next issue brings Donatello back without dragging it on too long and he's stood beside his brothers as the oncoming onslaught awaits. Read Full Review
