CAN GEIGER DIE?Tariq Geiger has been captured, stripped of his powers, and thrown into a twisted society within a high-security penitentiary known only as the Prisoners. No allies. No escape. No more time. As he’s sentenced to death inside their brutal system, the question isn’t whether Geiger can survive…it’s whether he ever really could.
Its taken a while for Geiger to truly feel a bit more than derivative. Johns has taken his time in delivering a story that really engages Tariq on a deeper level. The glowing wanderer of the wastes still holds a great deal of potential. Its just too bad that Johns didnt frame as much of the rest of the story leading into this issue with quite as much power as this issue. So much of the world around Tariq feels a bit silly in places that have come to light over the course of the seres thus far. Its nice to see the series move into more of a powerful direction. Colorist Robert Nugent handles the Glowing Man's glow effects wonderfully, really selling the idea of radiation emitting from Tariq when his powers flare up. Letterer Rob Leigh keeps the text clean and easy to follow. Read Full Review
Geiger #18 delivers an exciting and graphic ending of Coldwater Prison. The story arc is rising up just in time for the return of Ash Arden. Geiger continues to be one of the best comics in the shop with the most consistent art of any comic book. If you are looking for a new series to get into, pick up a copy this week at the LCS and enjoy. Read Full Review
Geiger faces off with more than mortality in this latest chapter. Johns' writing digs deep inside a glowing soul. Pansica, Frank and the art team unleash an inner rage which humanity still questions. A solid chapter to finish with a new adventure waiting in the wings. Read Full Review
GEIGER #18 rips through its premise like it's allergic to slowing down. This isn't a gentle read, nor one that cares about your comfort. It's built to rattle you, scorch you, and leave you hungry for more. The execution is sharp, but the experience can feel a little too raw, a little too relentless for those with delicate comic sensibilities. If you want your apocalypse loud, brutal, and radioactive, bet on this issue. Read Full Review
Plot
Tariq is attacked in his cell by his cellmate, who believes he works for the fearsome Goldbeard, who supposedly has a treasure hidden in Cold Water Prison that the leader, Wren, is desperate to obtain. Geiger easily disarms the prisoner, and one of the guards murders him and frames Geiger.
Geiger is tortured in the electric chair, interrogated about the location of Goldbeard's treasure and blamed for the murder. Wren oversees this torture, but the electricity recharges Tariq's cells, transforming him back into Geiger the Incandescent Man, and he begins killing everyone.
Meanwhile, Goldbeard's henchmen sneak out and retrieve the treasure: a baseball glove with a drawing of Goldbeard's deceased son—a priceles more
Pretty bad ass issue of Geiger. Always a good time reading it.
Fun well written comic.
This is a bridge issue for sure. Not a strong story. I feel like it was pretty truncated. We never see the warden really do anything wrong. The only person that does anything evil is the guard that kills his cellmate. Defintiely not as strong as previous arcs.I am looking forward to Arden returning.
