END OF STORY ARC
"THE WAR FOR PHANG," The Epic Conclusion!
Hell is war, as Hazel and her family learn the hardest way.
In conclusion, Saga #42 is an ingenious and also terribly sad must-read I'm afraid, and it stays at the back of your mind, areason why the two-month hiatus is welcome right now. Read Full Review
Vaughan's story doesn't disappoint, no matter how sad it is. He offers a compelling end to the arc. I'm interested to see what happens next with our characters. I hope to learn some more details in the War for Phang, and Gwendolyn's true role in it, to see how done the war truly is. Vaughan and Staples continue to craft a perfect comic that keeps readers craving more. Read Full Review
Saga closes this traumatic arc in brutal fashion and gives us no indication of what is supposed to happen next. An incredible issue all the way around. Read Full Review
This issue has a lot of graphic material within the pages but what else would we expect from Vaughan. This may turn some readers off that they would include such material. However, there are plenty that like this comic as it is grounded for a fantasy series making it Image's #2 series only behind The Walking Dead. Read Full Review
In starting slow and finishing strong, Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples end The War For Phang in heart wrenching fashion. Vaughan's measured approach to character pays off in ways yet seen, with Staples again providing the necessary human element to make us care. This is rare Saga hiatus that's almost welcome, as it's not just the creators who will need to recharge after this one. Read Full Review
The most heartbreaking waste of paper and ink I've ever read.
I wonder who's attacking The Will; what happens to Sweet Boy was disappointingly casual. The end of the issue is very dramatic, the number of black pages seems excessive but sure does hit you each time you turn the page, and it works even better reading a single issue and turning to a black back cover. It's pretty cool how the covers' colours have have gotten darker in this arc as they lead up to this issue.
weakest arc so far
Not a bad issue but I'm seriously considering stopping buying the series at this point. Fiona Staples' art is still something to behold but Vaughan's writing seems to me a bit lazy and repetitive.
