Nick Spencer really needs to be given the reins of more Marvel events. While Avengers Standoff became overly bloated as various Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D.-related comics were drawn into the fray, Spencer's issues have maintained a distinctive balance between lighthearted charm and epic drama. Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega #1 was a fabulous ending to this crossover, giving us some gripping twists along the way. It also does a wonderful job of setting up future series, even if the main conflict ended in a whimper. Read Full Review
If you missed the middle like me, have no fear and jump in" this is just like the ending of a major Marvel Cinematic Universe film" it reads slick and looks pretty. Read Full Review
I swear I enjoyed this book, but it was so frustratingly close to being something special.I'm sorry, but I don't need Steve Rogers narrating how he thinks this battle is a story "we'll bore our grandkids with someday." I want to see it, I want to feel it. Read Full Review
Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega #1 has its eyes locked on the future of the Marvel Universe but in doing so, it loses its own plot. Though Nick Spencer took what could have been another run of the mill lead---up to a major event and did some interesting things with it and the characters featured therein, you can't help but feel disappointed at this finale, despite some real surprises. While rendered by two very talented artists that provide a stark contrast in styles for this last issue, Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega doesn't quite stick the landing. Read Full Review
Overall:Avengers Standoff: Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega #1 was a lifeless read that never succeeds in engaging the reader's attention or interest. This bland and uncreative issue serves several editorially mandated stories and plot points and that is about it. There is no way in the world that this issue is worth you hard-earned money. Is Zemo always cheesy like that. They just made the villains so cheesy. I did however love the Maria Hill scene at the end. It was satisfying. LOL
A decent finale for a good but not great series
The ending was definitely not as strong as the start. Instead of finishing the actual story, Avengers: Standoff is used as a launch point for a Thunderbolts series by a no name writer. Seriously, nothing is resolved and their almost no lasting ramifications besides Maria Hill being fired. The only reason this gets a slightly good review is because it was entertaining most of the time
I appreciate the effort. This is a post-Bendis era story (right before the next one) that embraces the camaraderie between the heroes. Unfortunately it's not very good, and would have been better served (and traditionally presented) within 3 or 4 issues of a mainline Avengers comic.
