Maestro: War and Pax #3 is another powerful issue. Even though this is an alternate timeline, you cant help but care about these characters. Maestro is the main character, and yet the readers are left wanting him to lose. The dialogue and story are fantastic, but the issue's real draw is found in the second half. The battle is stunning in its design and intense in its execution. It may be one of the most emotionally charged fights in comics. Read Full Review

Maestro presented a predictable situation and caught me completely off guard. The story kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Read Full Review
Pina and Santos deliver some exciting and impressive art throughout this issue. Not only is it brutal and brilliantly detailed, but there is great attention to expression. Read Full Review
While there are some lingering questions that I have about where this series is going next, I have more than enough confidence at this point that the resolutions will be satisfying. Read Full Review
Maestro War and Pax #3 has a big and messed up wow moment, but there isn't much story progression overall. It's a quick read that looks great, and I am still enjoying the series. I only wish this issue was more than a twist ending with a cliffhanger we know isn't going to happen. Read Full Review
A portrait of when your friends become your enemies. The biggest blow is just that Bruce still hasn't gotten over the trauma of losing his mother, like another Bruce in comics. Seeing all this that molded the Future Imperfect, and having David just come back to his brainchild - I can see why David has decided to take care of this character for so long just to tell this story. Between this and Ewing, there just is no escaping the fact that any Hulk story Marvel comes out with recently just hits paydirt. Avengers? Eat your heart out.

This was mostly a good issue.
"Wheels within wheels" trickery allows the Pantheon to pull out a psychic win against the Maestro. He just looks more done for than ever now, but of course we know it ain't over yet. It's cleverly plotted and nicely illustrated, but the character work is weak and the humor tends toward over-explained puns. I recognize that this is done well, but "dark, dad-joke-y, and heartless" is not how I like my comics.
Bleh!
