If you're looking for a fun superhero story with some darkness, this one's definitely for you. If you were hoping for a ray of light flung into 2099's dark future, you're going to be disappointed. I know I was. Read Full Review
While only a one-shot, this book does more to flesh out the current dystopia of 2099 than Alpha attempted, and its worth reading for that alone. Fans of the FF will find a decent read here as well, but the real treat is re-reading the book again to look for hints to the ending. Read Full Review
It doesn't matter if you love it or hate it, you should experience it. It's such a short and sweet (bitter to some) tale that it should be felt, the keyword, without being spoiled. It's something that can only happen sparsely because now I, and others who read it, will be on their toes. But as of now, you got me. Bravo. Read Full Review
Fantastic Four 2099 is an interesting comic. The majority of it feels rather standard as far as a team origin. It's rather mundane in that regard. Where it stands out is that ending which plays so well against the rest of the issue. Read Full Review
With a plot that goes from uncompelling to mean spirited and strange art, there isn't much about Fantastic Four 2099 #1 to like. Read Full Review
It's a thin tale that leans too heavily on a twist that will leave readers annoyed more than enamored. Read Full Review
While Alpha 2099 didnt give me much, Fantastic Four 2099 made me angry. I couldnt find one reason to recommend so I wont, but I will never tell anyone not to buy somethingthat way, you can suffer just like me! Im a big jerk and I know it! Lets get busy!!! Read Full Review
This is one of the most dismal experiences I have ever had reading any comic book. A world that I didn't like visiting, characters I didn't like meeting and didn't care about, and an overall dark and nihilistic worldview combined to make me wish I hadn't taken on the task of reviewing this thing. I will make every effort to forget that I ever saw it. But it won't be easy. Read Full Review
If you're a fan of the recently relaunched Fantastic Four series, you will likely be disappointed that Fantastic Four 2099 shares very little in common with their classic predecessors. This is a scattered, meandering read that does so little to establish its titular concept that even diehard fans will likely feel swindled - and given Marvel's other 2099 one-shots being offered in the coming days, this is one family gathering you can easily avoid. I enjoyed this more than some it seems.
It reminded me a lot of 2000AD Future Shocks which is never a bad thing in my books. I can even see how the story could be developed afterwards.
I enjoyed the world building too, including the dialogue. Makes me very intrigued to see what Karla Pacheco does with Spider-Woman.
Well, it was boring and then THAT ending happens
A fairly promising "gather the new team" story takes a dark swerve in the last scene. I liked the set-up and the twist, and I thought they were built out with sound but not quite great storytelling. (Like for instance, the artist and colorist do an insanely great job creating a Mobius-esque world and then come up short when it comes to making characters emote.) As a self-contained story it's rather frustrating. But it does a bang-up job on the world-building that the Alpha issue shorted us on.
This was fine, and while the ending was shocking, I don't feel it elevates the rest of the issue.
Pretty generic story saved by a twist ending, which still doesn't make the issue good.
It was decent at best but what was the point?
I’ll level with you: I don’t really like the Fantastic Four, and I certainly don’t like spending a whole issue getting a future version of them together to no end.
Like some What if? story ok, but like a part of new 2099 universe no. Ending was shocking, but it didnt save this issue. After bad Alpha 2099 another disappointment.
H.E.R.B.I.E. Fully Loaded, and it as lame as it sounds, but also far more boring. At least these nothing characters got moidered immediately.
