EONS FROM HOME, THE BARBARIAN BATTLES THE CIVILIZATION OF 2099!
In the far flung future of 2099, will barbarism finally triumph over an endangered civilization? When CONAN THE BARBARIAN entered the Marvel Universe with the SAVAGE AVENGERS, he stayed to conquer and claim his kingship in modern times. Now cursed by a mystic to live beyond his years, when Conan's new kingdom is threatened, he swings his blade once more! But as the calamity in 2099 bears down on his secluded realm, will the future shock unseat the barbarian king? An unforgettable chapter unlike anything you've ever seen in the saga more
While the sword-and-sorcery purists may turn their nose up at this sci-fi fueled offering, the spirit of Conan is strong within Conan 2099. You may take the barbarian out of Hyboria and hand him a lightsaber, but nothing can tame Conan's barbaric spirit. The artwork proves as impressive as the story, which is thankfully accessible to newcomers to both the 2099 and Conan settings. Buy it, by Crom! Read Full Review
Conan 2099 is easily the best book on the comics rack this week coming from Marvel. Any Conan fan needs to stomach their concern for either the book being overly gimmick or being heavily tied in with the main 2099 storyline, and just buy this comic. Fans of a good adventure will also have a blast, and any fan of sword and sorcery just might love this cyberpunk take. You shouldnt sit on this book. Read Full Review
Conan The Barbarian 2099 #1 is definitely an upswing for this latest incarnation of the 2099 Universe. Here's hoping there's a follow-up featuring a clash of kings between the Cimmerian hero and a certain armor-wearing Latverian despot. Recommended. Read Full Review
This is exciting comics largely because it takes an extremely unexpected combination and makes it work. Duggan and Antonio have essentially proven you can make anything work when you apply good ideas and strong execution. Read Full Review
Given that some of these 2099 one-shots have been somewhat hit or miss, it's nice to see that Conan 2099 has stood so strongly apart. While you might be forgiven if you think the Cimmerian is on his way to Wolverine levels of oversaturation, Duggan and Antonio deliver a well-crafted and super-fun story of this far-flung future, and honestly, they stick the landing on this stunt far more than one might expect. If you buy one 2099 one-shot, make it this one. Read Full Review
Even though I harped on the writing, this book is still a lot of fun. It's a really good Conan story in a very unfamiliar setting and some really fantastic art. Worth both your time and money. Read Full Review
What makes the issue even more entertaining is the art from Roge Antonio. It is both brutal and beautiful in how the panels and action are laid out. There is so much dramatic tension from just shots of Conan walking and that complements the plot. Read Full Review
This issue is no doubt the best 2099 comic so far. Thus, if youre invested in these 2099 related issues, snag this one and add it to your pull list. If youre a Conan the Barbarian fan, it doesnt resemble the exact full nature of a Conan comic BUT Gerry Duggan does a pretty good job of hitting the highlights of the character, magnifying some of his most noteworthy qualities, and cleverly ushers Conan into the future (and beyond) in such an ingenious and creative way. Whether judged as part of the Marvel 2099 anniversary event, a stand-alone one-shot, or a bridge issue to future series, writer Gerry Duggan delivers. "Conan 2099" is a fun, satisfying read with fantastic characters and intriguing plot twists. Read Full Review
All in all this was a very good book that I was initially skeptical of but enjoyed very much. If you're a fan of Conan or just Marvel in general then this is the book for you. It is an enjoyable one-off that may lead to something in the future and can be enjoyed as a single issue as well. Read Full Review
Writer Gerry Duggan and artist Roge Antonio have a firm handle on the character and layout a believable premise for the book. It's an easy, fun read with the only real drawback is perhaps too quick a read. We have plenty to explore in this new world and I'm along for the ride to see where they take it. Read Full Review
Conan finds the future foreign, dangerous, and lonely. The comic is a great exploration of a battle within. It's self-contained and an engrossing read. It has action and adventure. But what surprised me was the cerebral focus. I highly recommend it. Not one page of this comic wasn't fun to read. Read Full Review
Instead of a, "Wow, isn't it funny to see Conan in the future?" their approach was far more existential and introspective, making for an engaging and thought-provoking narrative that will surely satisfy Conan fans. Read Full Review
The script was well designed and it jumped from present day storyline to flashback to create depth in the story. Read Full Review
This is Gerry Duggan writing Conan, of course it's good.
Honestly wasn’t really expecting this to be this great
I really did not expect this to be good, even if it's written by Gerry Duggan. The whole premise was just too stupid, I guess. But what do you know, I was wrong.
dont usually read Conan but I'm in after the savage avengers tale. and i'm a glutton for 1st appearances. this one shot was decent tho.. wonder where it is going??
All the 2099s have been pretty good reads but I'm just wondering if there will be more.
This was a pretty good future story… but it is still a future story.
