This sums it up pretty well. Halfway through I forgot it was even a Punisher title. Then the Punisher appears, and I was still like, "huh?"
The future has arrived, but world peace certainly hasn't! In fact, with the streets of Nueva York more crime-ridden than ever, who will rise up to defend the vulnerable population from the corruption? Looks like it's up to Punisher 2099 to clean up the block - the only question is, who's behind the mask?
Don't miss out on your glimpse into the future from rising stars, LONNIE NADLER & ZAC THOMPSON (Age of X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy Annual)!

Punisher 2099 is a rare breed: a Punisher comic that wants to make you think. With that alone, this book deserves to be read, but it helps that the story and artwork perfectly together to relate. Read Full Review
Even in the future, the world requires punishment, and The Punisher 2099 #1 delivers as such with brains and brawn. Headlined by a writing team who make this one-shot more than the sum of its parts and an art team unafraid to lean into more outlandish visual qualities, this 2099 installment could arguably be called one of the better efforts. If you like your Punisher tales with a bit more to say and a little less empty wanton violence, then look to the future and The Punisher 2099. Read Full Review
The story was not seamless, but it gave everything it needed to in a good way. The art compliments the tone of the writing and had great detailed backgrounds that added to the story. Great work here from the creative team. Read Full Review
Full of mystery, social commentary, and violence, Punisher 2099 #1 is an intriguing sci-fi thriller. Unfortunately, we are missing some information necessary for Hector's transformation into Punisher 2099. Read Full Review
"Punisher 2099" is bogged down narratively, but that doesn't stop the artists from providing a beautiful issue. Read Full Review
PUNISHER 2099 #1 has some great ideas and twists, yet never feels like it expands upon them. Read Full Review
Punisher 2099 is filled with unique ideas, but they stack atop each other messily and that leaves the comic with a disjointed finished product. It's unable to balance its story with its grand themes. Eventually, leaving us with a fleshed-out world but a paper-thin protagonist. Read Full Review
What do you get when you slap together a couple cringified "society and technology bad!" rehashes of Black Mirror episodes with a story that's irrelevant to the event it's named after as well as kicking Punisher 2099/2099 lore in general in the face? This joint. Read Full Review
This book may have a cool concept, but it has way too many problems for me to recommend it. It didnt feel like a Punisher book and took way to long to even get any Punisher action. The twist that these 2099 books seem to rely on was not shocking at all and didnt do anything to elevate the story. Overall, another disappointing return to the Marvel Future. Read Full Review
If you're absolutely dying for new Punisher material or have some deep-seated nostalgic ties to the original Punisher 2099 you might find this enjoyable. But if this is your first step into that world, it will probably be your last. Read Full Review
There is good thing with this issue and some less good ... Maybe a little rushed.
Festival the good things.
Firstly the fact that Jack Gallows was in the book but isn’t the punisher. I didn’t mind because I didn’t read the previous punisher 2099, and I when I read his backstory I find it to easy to have one copied on Frank Castle’s one.
So I sens early in the book that he wasn’t the hero, but I keep my mind ready for a surprise. After all we could have follow the one responsible for Gallows’ new identity, at the start impossible to tell.
I really licked the time the book spend on giving a taste of this future. The use of social media as a way of class the people (possible look what happen on China for exemple more
It's fine, though it felt like it was way too long.
For what it was it was good but considering its a one shot and not a start to a series its pretty worthless in the grand scheme unless omega really follows up on it
A new Punisher rises, eventually, after a lengthy detective story about a cop discovering that he serves a crooked system. It's packed full of interesting -- albeit not novel -- sci-fi world-building, but that works to the detriment of the story and the main character. As a platform for launching a Punisher 2099 story, this would be a failure; it's a good thing it's just a vignette in a bigger event.
They were so focused on making a 2099 detective story that they nearly forgot to include the punisher at all. And you can tell because he just kind of appears in his Castle-Cosplay at the end with no explanation. Also there was hardly any punishing! In a Punisher book! That's how you know you're doing something wrong
This is a very boring comic. It seems to take forever, but at the same time, it's still rushed.
Nothing really to do with the punisher except a person wearing a punisher type suit midway through the comic. This was very forgettable mostly.
We got what, 3 pages of Punisher?
I've put a 3 because I found his costume kinda cool.
Ah yes, I too have seen Black Mirror.
