If the next four issues are anything like this one, we are in for a real treat. What If Miles Morales Became Captain America #1 is a fantastic beginning for a really engaging character. Seeing Miles and his network of characters take on different roles in the Multiverse should leave any reader wanting to come back for more and more. Read Full Review
Overall, What If Miles Morales #1 is a fun story which that reminds us why What If was such an epic series. The story by Ziglar is astounding. The art by the creative team is awe inspiring. Altogether, a story which shows why Miles Morales is such a powerful protagonist. Read Full Review
Marvel Comics return to ‘What If?' style comics, with greater lengths this time, continues to be a welcome one as the stories have depth and weight and present intriguing views of the roads not taken. Miles Morales moves forward in leaps and bounds in ways he hasn't done as much in years, showcasing what could and should be with this chock full of potential character. Read Full Review

What If Miles Morales #1 launches a new multiverse-spanning saga that reimagines the once and future Spider-Man as different heroes in Marvel's pantheon. Next issue will see Miles take up the mantle of Wolverine, and I look forward to how that story turns out, especially since John Ridley will be handling the script-writing duties. Read Full Review

If I was to use two words to describe WHAT IF" MILES MORALES #1, it would be forced and awkward. Bizarre dialogue and even more strange parallels to MILES MORALES characters brought this issue down. Read Full Review
Writer Cody Ziglar juggles exactly what you expect from a new universe built entirely for one story pretty well in the start of this new What If"? miniseries, checking the boxes of character changes and combos that make this style of story a fan favorite. Read Full Review
While What If…Miles Morales #1 sparks a fun concept, it doesn't inspire any new ideas beyond insert-this-name-into-this-costume. You can only take an entertaining idea so far without an emotional core or dramatic tension, and this issue has neither. Read Full Review
It was a pleasant piece of fluff for a one-shot, but I can't say I'm convinced the concept is interesting enough to justify 4 issues of this
I feel like I wanted it to be more of an origin story for Cap Miles. But it really was just Miles origin mixed with some Cap type stuff. Entertaining to an extent but, not a great what if.
The core plot is simplistic, but it works. The pace is a bit uneven. Where the script shines is in world-building; a lot of extra detail is stacked into this AU to create good depth. And I like the idea of making Cap Miles a frame story that will connect all the other variants.
The art is solid. Paco Medina's a favorite of mine -- but that means I know that he's capable of delivering more detail and polish than he does here.
And then there's the elephant in the script: the slang.
The slang is dialed to 11 to make the voices sound authentically young and Black. To me, it seems desperate and counter-productive, but maybe other readers appreciate it more?
That's definitely not the worst what if I read, but it's so stupid... The way he got his powers... The way he and Aaron ended up not being enemies again... The way everything in this universe exists... I dunno. The art is fine and there were cool moments. Some ideas are actually fine, but overall it's too dumb. And the dumbest thing is - it's not the end...
Of course I understand the reason this comic exists... Ask yourself why there's no "WHAT IF: PETER PARKER" series. But I'll read it entirely. Just to give some opposite opinions this series really deserves. It could have more, but most of the people just won't read it, so most of the rates will be green and everything, because Miles has many of his fans, who are with him no ma more
