The opening panels give the reader what they might think they want a massive battle between Wolverine, Maverick, Bannister, the US Military and Beast's massive underwater fortress. But the book once again proves it's much smarter than that, pulling away from the fight in favor of a sit-down conversation between Hank and Logan. Read Full Review
It's the final countdown in the penultimate issue of the ‘Weapons Of X' story arc, as Wolverine and Beastshare a few words ahead of the inevitable fight. A storyline that has been cooking for far too long is almost ready to serve, wrapped up in a glossy package that works for the most part. Read Full Review
Witnessing this devolution of Hank is reminiscent of the time Pestilence's touch led to an alteration of his metabolism, causing any use of his superhuman strength to decrease his intellect. This current descent, however, was all Hank's own doing. What's worse is that he insinuates this may be who he was all along, just a brute. Tearing apart an decades old image as easily as his fangs tear into the lobster's shell. And while his behavior in Wolverine #34 may not leave him with an upset stomach, Hank McCoy fans will feel something in the pit of theirs. Read Full Review
Wolverine #34is the victim of its own pacing. Overall, theBeast Agenda/Weapons of Xmega arc has taken every possible step it could to drag out its story, whether it be in writing style or general plotting. While it doesn't hurt the moment to moment reading of this story, it has created a sense of repetition and fatigue within the pages of it's own story, this issue suffering the most as it's entire plot becomes one big circle that keeps the characters at the exact same point they started this book in. Are the moment to moment writing beats good? Sure, but the overall package comes down to being simple trade filler. Read Full Review
Wolverine #34 is a decent issue that's more filler and bridging to the next issue more than anything else. Still, seeing Beast nosh lobster and talk like a maniac will always be entertaining. Read Full Review
Some super interesting stuff happening here. Certain things did feel rushed to me, like Jeff disappearing in the water or maybe even the Wolverine clones gaining higher intelligence. Though, this was still a really good issue and I did think the development of the brains of the Wolverine clones healing, itself, was pretty cool.
I love the art; it's gorgeous. My reaction to the script it serves is considerably cooler.
I often describe a comic as "action-movie dumb," and usually I mean that as at least faint praise. This issue is action-movie dumb in a wholly negative way, no matter how pretty the action scenes look.
This is even a specific kind of bad action movie: It's a bad Bond movie. (The scene where the villain laboriously justifies himself to the hero over dinner makes the comparison inescapable.)
This is the forgettable sort of Bond movie that makes the producers start thinking about recasting the lead.
I came into this issue hoping for some thrills, epic action and some real continuation of the fight/hunt Wolverine has had for Beast these past several issues. It was really disappointing then, to take a big bite out of a nothing-burger on this one. Beast got much more of a meal out of this issue than I did, and that scene alone was repulsive. I can see what Percy was going for here in showing how awful Hank has become, but it has become so repetitive. Nothing new is said that hasn't been said before in previous issues, which really makes the whole meeting between him and Logan come off as such a waste. And the way this issue ends, it makes it seem like Logan will have much less to do with Beast's utter downfall than Beast himself which takmore
Gotta say this is the first issue of the current wolverine series I've picked up. Which was today. Dude, is there a shortage of writers at marvel? Are the editors even reading these scripts? Every page of this issue has "@$$#*!" in the dialogue. You know you can write a good story without all the cussing. It's lazy and insults the readers. I wish I could return this issue. It's boring, lazy and just plain dumb. Comics used to be written so well. Does this writer talk like this in real life? Just cusses in every sentence? Ugh. I gave it a 2 because the art is okay. It's not compelling or really well done but I've seen worse. Having been a huge comic fan since I was a kid in the early 80's and taking a break in 2006 I've gotta say, more
