Manic Pixie Femboy. You, sir, are my hero and have won the Internet today.
Honestly, this was a poor conclusion to this short series and arguably worse than the first issue. I felt no real sense of alarm at all from what we got with these nightmares, and it made it even harder to take Jason and Tim's reactions and resolution seriously in the face of them. It really felt like Porter had no idea how to wrap this up, realized he was out of space to tell the story, and just more
The undynamic duo of Tim Drake and Jason Todd are on death’s door. Lost in their own personal hells with their worst nightmares around every corner and nowhere to run, the two Robins must put aside their differences and find the strength to overcome their fears and fight back.
Overall, it's not the worst story DC has put out recently, but it really failed to hit in the ways it could have had Porter stretched these nightmares in slightly different ways. All we get is a jaunt down the same paths we've seen with both of these characters with nothing new added to them to bring more clarity or even a different viewpoint to them. Tim, by far, walks away with the better storymore
It’s Robin versus Robin versus nightmare Robins? When the two Bat-brothers get taken into the Nightmare Realm, Jason Todd and Tim Drake must fight against their worst fears and each other as they’re forced to relive the darkest moments of their lives.
Here we are, the final issue.
To start, yes, the ending felt rushed. However, I don't think that's something anyone on the team can be blamed for given the way this was abruptly canceled mid-arc. In that situation, you do what you can to create some sort of ending place, which means there are a lot of loose strings left unattended to. Could this have benefitted from a few extra pages a more
Robin and Batwoman are trapped in the lair of the Chaos Monsters! Will they be able to escape with their sanity intact?
deep breath Only two issues left, only two issues left…
Alright let’s get to the positives, this intro is actually kinda good. There is a decent narrative flow, Tim using his analytical mind that’s communicated in a visually interesting way. The art looks good throughout, and the final scene is really haunting and has great use of imagery.
That out of the way, this book more
Batwoman's got blood on her hands as a familiar enemy rears their head and creates a rift between her and Robin. Do we really know what we're capable of?
The way this story arc has been written, it's clearly aiming for these emotional hits and getting people to react to these moments. The story and its characters have taken a distant second. In Fitzmartin's attempt to create a constant run of angst and drama, it seems she's forgotten what you actually need to make any of those plot beats resonate: defined characters with readers invested in them anmore

So, yes, the art is better, and the plot proved a little more linear, with fewer distractions, but the writing still leaves a whole hell of a lot to be desired. Fitzmartin continues to struggle with understanding who Tim is, with showing genuine character interactions, and the continued failures here render me completely underwhelmed with this new arc. I still don't feel much for the characters, emore
Who's ready for a Bat-team-up for the ages? Batwoman shows up at the Gotham Marina with a mystery only the world's best Robin could solve. Together, Robin and Batwoman will help each other...or die trying.
I realize this was supposed to be some sort of feel-good backstory for these two boys. We got to see more of Bernard and where he comes from. We got to see a cute little date scene despite the villainy hijinks. But when you look back as to how we got here, there's so little foundation that it still felt really flat to me. It's been incredibly frustrating to read, to see the lack of work put into tmore
A new dawn rises on Tim Drake and the Gotham Marina as a new chapter of Robin’s story begins! But how long can this sense of calm last with a certain someone still roaming free in Gotham?
Tim Drake has never, ever, Ever, EVER wanted to be Batman!!!! IT’S BEEN THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF HIS CHARACTER SINCE HIS CREATION!!!!
The final showdown! Tim Drake comes face-to-voice with the villain who’s been taunting Tim by using his metahuman powers to create ghostly animals. When this Moriarty’s identity is revealed, all hell breaks loose in the marina. Can Tim keep things afloat, while simultaneously dealing with his relationship with Bernard?
I still hold to the idea that Fitzmartin never had any intention of honoring the concept and legacy of Tim Drake but instead seems to have taken this as her cue to write whatever fantasy ideas she has of him. This isn't about "trying to live up to the images of other people." When given a character like this, it's about making them the best version of who you can while still honoring the roots semore

Just when I thought Fitzmartin had finally left all those old detective stories alone, we're greeted with the most uninspired villain touting himself as worthy of comparison to the Joker. To be fair, this current version of Tim Drake is by no means giving Batman a run for his money at this rate either. Moriarty. Bernard has been kidnapped and only one person can save him: his boyfriend, Tim Drake! Plus, the Gotham Marina continues to be the target of both political unrest and a string of bizarre crimes. With every part of Tim’s life seemingly ready to explode, can the young sleuth crack the case of his abducted admirer before it’s too late?
Tim couldn't have been staying at Wayne Manor; last I checked, Bruce had moved out a while ago, leaving the place dormant. That does raise the question of where Tim has been staying before he moved to the Marina, but given Fitzmartin, probably something like he'd been sleeping in the various mini Bat-Caves around Gotham.
Let me start by saying, having seen more comments about the matter, that Rossmo's art isn't the main issue here for me. While I do continue to agree that this style wasn't the best fit for a Tim Drake book, it's still a style that has its place in the industry. Part of the issue with the art, though, is that it gives us one sense of a story while the actual story itself provides another, and I feemore

Overall, this was still a badly written issue, but dropping the pursuit of various older detective stories and allowing some semblance of a plot to form was one of the better things about this particular one. That being said, still not a great time being had here.
Fitzmartin's grasp on characterization remains threadbare at best. She has a few lines that seem to imply she has at least more

The artstyle in and of itself is quite good, though it's let down by the incredibly stiff poses the characters are drawn in, the backgrounds suddenly vanishing entirely at points, and some odd expressions in certain panels that make it look laughable.
As for the writing, it's quite poor with a lack of resolution for several plot points, some rather odd scripting choices that prevent an more

I'd like to say I feel some level of relief that this series has now met its end, but in all honesty, I'm still left baffled by how such a story was ever allowed to proceed on the course that it did. I was hoping we would get some sort of explanation into why this was worth putting the Dark Crisis title on it, but the fact of that matter remains that this series has absolutely nothing to do with more

Where do I even begin?
Challenge for Fitzmartin: stop taking the plots of other detective comics and making it seem like you did anything with them. This is just lazy writing. The fact that I knew what story she would use next based on the preview talk of a stolen diamond and framing someone, given her previous history with other old detective stories, made this as lame as the previous more
To catch a criminal mastermind, Tim will have to...steal a diamond? Oh no, what's gotten into you, Tim? It's Tim Drake like you've never seen him! Plus: a murder most foul at the library, the Gotham Marina is in danger, and Bernard isn't answering Tim's calls!
It'll be interesting to see the reactions. I'm still not entirely sold on the general feeling they seem to be going for with this as it seems ill-suited for a serious Tim Drake solo. That being said I could have done Rossmo's art if the story was spectacular, but Fitzmartin has already shown us her inability to tell a story regardless of who her artist is or the characters she gets to handle. If they want a good Tim solo, they need to ditch her first.
Oh absolutely they need to get Chuck Dixon, James Tynion, Chris Yost, Fabian Nicieza, or Devin Grayson to take over the writing
This gets the Fitzmartin rating.

So I’ll start by saying this is much better than the previous issue…that being said, I still can’t say it’s all that good. The more I look into it the more issues I find with it. This is without a doubt the worst characterization Tim has ever had, since the New 52 altered his origin. Take this quote for instance:
“There are only a few places I belong. With Bernard. On the boat. An more

I don't know how a writer manages to make you hate the heroes she's writing, but that's what has happened here. Each issue has only gotten progressively worse, and rather than show us a group of individuals trying to define a better future for themselves and the world, we've basically gotten a personal rant (I can't even say I feel like I'm getting lectured at because frankly there is nothing enlimore

This book made me so angry, I became apathetic. It is almost reaching "All-Star Batman & Robin" levels of bad for me. My love for this team (and especially Tim) must be strong because I will keep reading no matter how god awful things get., but I never want this writer & this editorial team to work in the industry again.
That's fair. I know there are a lot of fans who really want YJ in general and the current Tim Drake solo to succeed. I do, too, but not with this writer. DC is losing me as a fan with her at the helm of these stories. I'd like to see someone else take over the solo since this title is a foregone conclusion at this point, but I honestly don't know that you can salvage what she's already done. It's truly unfortunate. DC put their money on a lame horse.
What the fuck

This was honestly heartbreakingly terrible. When it was announced that Tim Drake was getting his own series, I was so ecstatic, esp after it was announced he was bi. However, after seeing the current YJ run and following it up with this first issue, I can see now that your writer has no concept of how to develop a story or relationships between people. The dialogue continues to be stilted and manumore

I’ve spoken with so many bisexuals online and No One likes what is happening. How they handled things with Steph, picking Bernard of all people, and how it all took place. If it’s not being written for us, then who is it written for? This all feels like a straight woman’s really bad fanfiction. I don’t usually get all bent up about representation, but when it’s done this badly and to my favorite character! Ugh, DC needs to get their shit together
Same! Even among my friends who identify as LGBTQ none of them have liked what they read in this comic. All of it felt forced and bland to them, and those of us who are Tim Drake fans feel even worse about what they read. None of us understand why she is acting like Bernard is the best Tim's ever had or throwing out all of his history basically with his Bat-family. And seriously why Bernard? The kid wasn't even that good to him in the old comic setting!
DC Editorial needed to knock this one out of park, considering the natural hate it would get from babies on the internet.
All that nonsense whining aside, I shall proceed with my own:

I wouldn't even mind the femininity, though there's always ways to explore that but even that I feel is too much for this creative team. Just the writing's not great :/ I hope it'll get better but the track record so far doesn't give me much of it.
Like the detective elements in this are soooo basic, as well ;___; It is HARD to write satisfying mysteries and detective stories, which is probably why DC has difficulty with Tim's character solo, but this was def not it. Like most Batman stories nowadays don't even have HARD detective elements at their core, but that's sort of a big part of Tim's character. The Sherlock line was so cringe lol
Holy shit this is horrendous, I hate grading a book with a 1, but this book should have an even worse score, Meghan Fitzmartin has no idea on how to create a simple story, her voice for Tim is even worse, we are talking about the greatest detective in the Batfamily, he is a goddamn genius and Fitzmartin couldn't care less about it... I enjoy Rossmo's art on a few books, like his amazing Martian Mamore

I want to preface this by saying I am a long time Tim Drake fan, who happens to be bisexual. I harbor no ill will to any of the creative team on this book….but I have read porn parodies that are more engaging, have better understanding of Tim’s character, and a better understanding of being bisexual!
