I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After not having both Superman and Bruce Wayne as Batman together for some time now, it was great to return to the original cast. I also enjoyed seeing an awesome and, in recent years, rare Clayface battle for a handful of pages. Tom Taylors first issue along with the entire new creative team hit this issue out of the park. There is so much tender meat to chew on. Why was Lobo hired to kill that giant lady? Who is Superman referring to when he says someone has been discovered that shouldnt have been there? Tom Taylor gives fans of Batman and Superman a nice little treat and hopefully it's the gift that keeps on giving.  The story involves a crazy mystery that may just be a setup for a huge showdown, but I want to be there when it happens.  Tom Taylor may just be giving fans a fun little diversion to get us to the return of the DC status quo, but that's exactly what I liked about it. As a new Batman/Superman reader, this was an excellent first introduction to the title. Although it is a throwback story, set prior to the up-til-now Batman/Superman continuity, the compelling storytelling, known villains, surprising twists, a sweeping plot and grand settings lure this reader toward wanting more. If there's one thing that holds this issue back, it's that plotting-wise, Taylor doesn't quite have as much of a hook as he does with his characterization. While the idea of a murder mystery on a moon is interesting, having a tease about Kryptonian history has already been done to death, even dating back as far as the very issue of Batman/Superman over a decade ago. What I'm hoping will happen is that Taylor can give us one strong twist to make the end destination seem worthwhile, and continue on his fantastic characterization to make the issues getting there feel this punchy. For now, this isn't a must-read, but it's certainly a surprising show of quality, and perhaps a sign that bigger things should be in store for this team. Read Full Review

“Universe's Finest” gets a good score in my book. If you're a fan of Batman/ Superman team ups, then you'll enjoy this book. You readers know how I feel about my action sequences, and although this issue stops short of giving us alot, its completely justified in doing so. I believe that the next issue will either expose this unknown threat, or it will produce more answers that will eventually give our heroes a villain to fight. However this issue is still an entertaining read if you're a fan of two of the world's greatest heroes. Read Full Review
