This was a nice issue which I thought was very entertaining. Outside of the highlighted moments there are nice little things sprinkled throughout (Batman's bat-moon boot footprints, Alfred's super-power being the ability to slip someone tea at a moment's notice) that made this feel like a full story and an opening chapter. It is nicely paced with a slow human moment before hitting the gas on adventure the rest of the way. And there are decent hooks to keep me intrigued. Who is the dead alien? Who is the alien with the bat-grudge? Who is writing Kryptonese? Add to that a more classic representation of these two icons and I was a happy reader. Can't wait to read more. Read Full Review

The Batman Universe - Tyler Saldaa Jan 13, 2016

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After not having both Superman and Bruce Wayne as Batman together for some time now, it was great to return to the original cast. I also enjoyed seeing an awesome and, in recent years, rare Clayface battle for a handful of pages. Tom Taylors first issue along with the entire new creative team hit this issue out of the park. There is so much tender meat to chew on. Why was Lobo hired to kill that giant lady? Who is Superman referring to when he says someone has been discovered that shouldnt have been there? With all my questions out on the table, I am eager from Tom Taylor, Robson Rocha and cos next issue. Read Full Review

"Batman Superman" #28 is not something I've never read before but this is what I needed. This is a classic feeling team-up in which no one asks whether or not the other one bleeds. Read Full Review

Tom Taylor gives DC fans what they've desperately been waiting for: the Batman and Superman we know and love. Highlighting the strengths of Batman and Superman, we're treated with a straight story, strong writing, and no overcompensating gimmicks. This book should please any Batman or Superman fan. Weird Science - Jim Werner Jan 13, 2016

Tom Taylor gives fans of Batman and Superman a nice little treat and hopefully it's the gift that keeps on giving.  The story involves a crazy mystery that may just be a setup for a huge showdown, but I want to be there when it happens.  Tom Taylor may just be giving fans a fun little diversion to get us to the return of the DC status quo, but that's exactly what I liked about it. Dark Knight News - John Hagmann Jan 14, 2016

As a new Batman/Superman reader, this was an excellent first introduction to the title. Although it is a throwback story, set prior to the up-til-now Batman/Superman continuity, the compelling storytelling, known villains, surprising twists, a sweeping plot and grand settings lure this reader toward wanting more. The art is great in some spots and not-so-great in others. However, the good far outweighs the bad in Batman/Superman #28. Read Full Review

    Newsarama - David Pepose Jan 18, 2016

If there's one thing that holds this issue back, it's that plotting-wise, Taylor doesn't quite have as much of a hook as he does with his characterization. While the idea of a murder mystery on a moon is interesting, having a tease about Kryptonian history has already been done to death, even dating back as far as the very issue of Batman/Superman over a decade ago. What I'm hoping will happen is that Taylor can give us one strong twist to make the end destination seem worthwhile, and continue on his fantastic characterization to make the issues getting there feel this punchy. For now, this isn't a must-read, but it's certainly a surprising show of quality, and perhaps a sign that bigger things should be in store for this team. Read Full Review

Taylor doesn't take any real chances at his first swing on the characters, but in doing so he still manages to tell a solid and engaging team-up tale. Read Full Review

“Universe's Finest” gets a good score in my book. If you're a fan of Batman/ Superman team ups, then you'll enjoy this book. You readers know how I feel about my action sequences, and although this issue stops short of giving us alot, its completely justified in doing so. I believe that the next issue will either expose this unknown threat, or it will produce more answers that will eventually give our heroes a villain to fight. However this issue is still an entertaining read if you're a fan of two of the world's greatest heroes. Read Full Review
