The way First Contact connects both stories helps clear things up in a way that makes sense for both series when moving on from this crossover. It's definitely a book for fans of Worlds' finest because it helps lead to Huntress and Power Girl finding a way back home along while setting up a few stories for Batman and Superman to face sometime in the future. For someone who has been waiting for a long while for Batman and Superman to meet Huntress and Power Girl, this second take by Greg Pak and Jae Lee is satisfying, perhaps even more so than the first in Batman/Superman #8. Pak has a strong grasp on each individual character's voice that never lapses into stereotype or clich, and in this issue, he skilfully balance a fast-paced plot with a lot of character movement and interaction. Jae Lee and June Chung deliver with exceptional art that portrays all four protagonists in their best light, with crisp lines and well-composed layouts. I have to say I am a little disappointed in this installment of First Contact. Each threat seems trivialized and each solution seems almost comically contrived. Even Kaizen Gamorra, the villain that was the most interesting part of this event, is forgotten in the aftermath of the portal opening. The best things going for this issue was both the art and the enigmatic and nebulous memories of both Batman and Superman. With the portal open, and the destroyed landscape in sight, I wonder what the connection between worlds will mean for the four heroes. Read Full Review

I didn't enjoy myself at all while reading this, but a big part of that is likely because I already knew the ending and knew that whatever I read here was only going to lead to something terrible so all of issue #9′s potential was soured by the early release of chapter 4 a month ago. So I'm tossing a few extra points in its direction because I know many of you love Jai Lee's art and I'm acknowledging I went into this issue with a negative attitude. Still, it's not a good score (anything I give under a 5 should probably be ignored) and I absolutely do not recommend Chapter Three or the four-partFirst Contact arc as a whole. Read Full Review

There is no consistency to this story, and it seems that whatever they feel like throwing in they do with no regard to previous issues, and previous continuity.  For the majority of this issue Superman wears a Kryptonite necklace and it simply takes away his powers.  Since when does Kryptonite not kill the big blue boy scout?  Just very confusing, and speaking of confusing I don't think I'll ever be able to get behind Jae Lee's art, while a panel might be nice to look at it never will be able to convey a story to me that doesn't seem erratic and missing pieces.  I was really looking forward to the First Contact story line, but at this point it might be the weakest story the New 52 has put out.
